A scoping review of resilience among intensive care nurses: Exploring strengths that mitigate secondary trauma.

OBJECTIVE: The stressful and traumatic nature of nursing jobs, especially in specialized units such as the intensive care unit (ICU), puts nurses at higher risk for psychological distress or more severe diagnoses like posttraumatic stress disorder. The purpose of this study is to conduct a scoping review on resilience among ICU nurses, using the resilience portfolio model as a framework. METHOD: We searched PubMed and APA PsycInfo for articles that included the terms "ICU nurses" and "resilience," which resulted in 302 articles. After excluding duplicates and articles that focused only on wor

Artificial Intelligence non-invasive methods for neonatal jaundice detection: A review.

Neonatal jaundice is a common and potentially fatal health condition in neonates, especially in low and middle income countries, where it contributes considerably to neonatal morbidity and death. Traditional diagnostic approaches, such as Total Serum Bilirubin (TSB) testing, are invasive and could lead to discomfort, infection risk, and diagnostic delays. As a result, there is a rising interest in non-invasive approaches for detecting jaundice early and accurately. An in-depth analysis of non-invasive techniques for detecting neonatal jaundice is presented by this review, exploring several AI-

Hepatoprotective and Anti-fibrotic Agents: It's Time to Take the Next Step.

Hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis cause strong human suffering and necessitate a monetary burden worldwide. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the development of therapies. Pre-clinical animal models are indispensable in the drug discovery and development of new anti-fibrotic compounds and are immensely valuable for understanding and proofing the mode of their proposed action. In fibrosis research, inbreed mice and rats are by far the most used species for testing drug efficacy. During the last decades, several hundred or even a thousand different drugs that reproducibly evolve beneficial eff

Animal models in pressure ulcer research.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Research targeting the pathophysiology, prevention, and treatment of pressure ulcers (PrUs) continue to be a significant priority for clinical and basic science research. Spinal cord injury patients particularly benefit from PrU research, because the prevalence of chronic wounds in this category is increasing despite standardized medical care. Because of practical, ethical, and safety considerations, PrUs in the human environment are limited to studies involving patients with pre-existing ulcers. Therefore, we are limited in our basic knowledge pertaining to the developme

Measurement of unnecessary psychiatric readmissions: a scoping review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Care transition for patients being discharged from inpatient mental healthcare to outpatient settings is a growing focus for healthcare delivery systems. Many studies of this inpatient to outpatient transition use the rate of postdischarge readmissions as a patient-level outcome measure to assess the quality of transition. However, it is unclear how studies define the measure, and whether there is a shared understanding by the field regarding which definition is appropriate for which circumstances. This scoping review thus aims to examine how published studies have approached mea

Towards automatic assessment of atypical early motor development?

Atypical motor development is an early indicator for several neurodevelopmental conditions, including cerebral palsy and Rett Syndrome, prompting early diagnosis and intervention. While not currently part of the diagnostic criteria for other conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder, the frequent retrospective diagnosis of motor impairments alongside these conditions highlights the necessity of a deeper understanding of the relations between motor and cognitive development. Traditional clinical assessments, while considered the gold standard, rely on movement characteristics discernible to the

Patient-therapist relationship in psychedelic-assisted therapy: Implications for future real-world settings.

The view that the use of serotonergic psychedelics in mental health care should always be psychotherapeutically embedded has recently been questioned. One argument against this model concerns the high costs it entails, which could limit the accessibility of psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT)-a concern likely to gain traction if PAT is officially approved in the future. This paper analyzes the implications of a reductionist approach that primarily frames PAT as a pharmacological intervention, focusing on a key component of the treatment: the patient-therapist relationship. It first reviews evid

Kidney exchange strategies: new aspects and applications with a focus on deceased donor-initiated chains.

Kidney paired donation (KPD) is a valuable way to overcome immunological incompatibility in the context of living donation, and several strategies have been implemented to boost its development. In this article, we reviewed the current state of the art in this field, with a particular focus on advanced KPD strategies, including the most recent idea of initiating living donor (LD) transplantation chains with a deceased donor (DD) kidney, first applied successfully in 2018. Since then, Italy has been running a national programme in which a chain-initiating kidney is selected from a DD pool and a

Counting Ticks (Acari: Ixodida) on Hosts Is Complex: A Review and Comparison of Methods.

Locating and counting parasites on a host is a fundamental aspect of ecological research and basic veterinary and clinical practice. Variability in the biology and behavior of both hosts and parasites creates many methodological, logistical, and ethical considerations that must be made to collect this deceptively simple measurement. We identified methods that are used to count ticks (Acari: Ixodida, Leach 1815) on hosts by reviewing the methods sections of relevant published studies. Unfortunately, there is no best method agreed upon by scientists to collect ticks from hosts. In general, we su

Applications of induced pluripotent stem cells in the modeling of human inflammatory bowel diseases.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) are chronic and involve the gastrointestinal tract; the two primary IBDs are ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Existing treatments for IBD include control of active inflammation and regulation of immune disorders, and commonly used drugs include salicylates, corticosteroids, and immunosuppressants. At the same time, an in-depth study of IBD pathogenesis promoted the acceptance of bioimmunotherapy by increasing numbers of people. However, long-term use of these drugs can cause adverse reactions that are difficult for patients to overcome, with limited ef
