Low-frequency STN-DBS provides acute gait improvements in Parkinson's disease: a double-blinded randomised cross-over feasibility trial.

BACKGROUND: Some people with Parkinson's disease (PD) report poorer dynamic postural stability following high-frequency deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus (STN-DBS), which may contribute to an increased falls risk. However, some studies have shown low-frequency (60 Hz) STN-DBS improves clinical measures of postural stability, potentially providing support for this treatment. This double-blind randomised crossover study aimed to investigate the effects of low-frequency STN-DBS compared to high-frequency stimulation on objective measures of gait rhythmicity in people with PD. Feasibility of anorectal chlamydia testing in women: a cross-sectional survey among general practitioners.

BACKGROUND: Anorectal Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) may be clinically relevant for women in general practice. Although anorectal CT testing in this setting may prevent underdiagnosis and undertreatment, its feasibility is questioned as GPs currently rarely order anorectal CT tests, for yet unknown reasons. OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility of anorectal CT testing in women in general practice. METHODS: GPs across the Netherlands were invited directly (n = 1481) and by snowball sampling (n = 330) to join an online cross-sectional survey that asked about the acceptability of and barriers for (

Feasibility and initial validation of 'HD-Mobile', a smartphone application for remote self-administration of performance-based cognitive measures in Huntington's disease.

OBJECTIVE: Smartphone-based cognitive assessment measures allow efficient, rapid, and convenient collection of cognitive datasets. Establishment of feasibility and validity is essential for the widespread use of this approach. We describe a novel smartphone application (HD-Mobile) that includes three performance-based cognitive tasks with four key outcome measures, for use with Huntington's disease (HD) samples. We describe known groups and concurrent validity, test-retest reliability, sensitivity, and feasibility properties of the tasks. METHODS: Forty-two HD CAG-expanded participants (20 ma

Feasibility of the ultrasound-guided supraclavicular cannulation of the brachiocephalic vein in very small weight infants: A case series.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this retrospective analysis was to evaluate the clinical feasibility of the supraclavicular ultrasound-guided cannulation of the brachiocephalic vein in infants weighing less than 1500 g. METHODS: The ultrasound probe was placed in the supraclavicular region so as to obtain the optimum sonographic long-axis view of the brachiocephalic vein. By using an in-plane approach the brachiocephalic vein was cannulated by using a 24-gauge intravenous cannula under real-time ultrasound guidance into the vein followed by the insertion of a 2-French single lumen catheter using the S

Application of 'no-touch' hysteroscopy (vaginoscopy) for the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding in adolescence.

AIM: This article retrospectively analyzed the efficacy and safety of vaginoscopy in the treatment of adolescent abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) in 204 cases of AUB. METHOD: From January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2017, 204 patients with intact hymen who were admitted to our hospital due to AUB received vaginoscopy, and vaginoscopy did not damage the hymen. In this study, 4.5 mm and 6.5 mm hysteroscopy were used with a pumping fluid pressure of 100-120 mm Hg and a flow rate of 400 mL/min. All 204 vaginoscopy was successfully completed in intravenous anesthesia. RESULTS: Postoperative pathologic

Feasibility of the Von Willebrand disease PREVENT trial.

BACKGROUND: Despite treatment, women with von Willebrand disease (VWD) have lower von Willebrand factor (VWF) levels and greater blood loss at delivery than controls. Current weight-based dosing does not account for the ~1.5-fold increase in blood volume in pregnancy. METHODS: To evaluate the feasibility of a trial to prevent postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), we reviewed pre-pregnancy and 8th month VWF levels in women with VWD with and without PPH following vaginal delivery, assessed VWF concentrate use at delivery by U.S. hemophilia treatment center physician survey, and reviewed thrombosis risk

[Use of 3 French catheters for diagnostic and interventional procedures in newborns and small infants].

Miniaturisation of diagnostic and interventional tools is of main interest for cardiac catheterization of newborns and small infants, due to the limited vascular access of these patients. Since January 2001 to November 2002, we performed 11 diagnostic and 5 interventional procedures in 15 infants, utilising custom-made 3 F sheaths and catheters. The median age and weight of the patients were 7 days (range 1-180) and 2.8 kg (range 2-4), respectively. Diagnostic catheterizations gave the required information in all cases. Angiography was performed following the results of in vitro pressure to vo

Laparoscopic orchiopexy: procedure of choice for the nonpalpable testis?

PURPOSE: Multiple approaches exist for the management of the nonpalpable testis. With the use of diagnostic laparoscopy widely accepted in the setting of the nonpalpable testis we have found laparoscopic orchiopexy to be an efficient and logical extension. To evaluate its use we report our experience with laparoscopic orchiopexy to treat 44 nonpalpable testes in 36 patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients who underwent laparoscopic orchiopexy for a 2 1/2-year period. Modifications of the surgical technique are described. RESULTS: The le

eHealth Approaches to Multimorbidity Management: Scoping Review of Interventions and Multidisease Strategies.

BACKGROUND: Multimorbidity, defined as the coexistence of two or more chronic conditions, challenges traditional, single-disease health care models. Although digital health technologies are increasingly applied to complex patient care, most interventions remain disease-specific and fail to account for interactions between coexisting conditions. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aimed to systematically map and synthesize existing evidence on digital health interventions that explicitly address multimorbidity, focusing on how these solutions integrate disease interdependencies between coexisting d

Acupuncture Prescription Based on Thermal-Sensitized Acupoints for the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Pilot Trial.

BACKGROUND: Treatment options for knee osteoarthritis (KOA) remain limited. Although previous studies suggest that acupuncture can alleviate pain and functional impairment associated with KOA, there is significant variation in acupoint selection across studies and a lack of objective criteria to guide this choice. Infrared thermography (IRT) is recognized as a reliable method for identifying inflammatory regions in KOA. Our previous research revealed abnormal skin temperature at specific acupoints and surrounding areas in the lower limbs of patients with KOA, indicating potential treatment tar

Feasibility of the "Take Action" Cognitive-Functional Program During Active Chemotherapy in Women With Breast Cancer.

Women with breast cancer experience treatment-related side effects, including cognitive impairment, that adversely affect functioning and quality of life. Despite growing recognition of cancer-related cognitive impairment, few studies have examined rehabilitation during active oncological treatment. This study examined the feasibility of the Take Action (TA) cognitive-functional occupational therapy program during chemotherapy among seven women. Feasibility indicators, perceived cognitive function, daily functioning, and well-being were assessed at three time points. The TA program comprised s

Commentary: Bridging the gap between emerging harms and evidence-based care: a commentary on Bucci et al. (2025).

Bucci et al. (Child and Adolescent Mental Health, 13, 1) report on a thoughtfully designed feasibility trial of i-Minds, a digital intervention for youths who have been exposed to technology-assisted sexual abuse. The study represents an important step toward addressing an emerging and deeply concerning threat to youth mental health. More broadly, it highlights a familiar challenge for intervention scientists: how to make go/no-go decisions about larger clinical trials based on small feasibility studies, and how to balance careful, evidence-based treatment development with the urgent public he…
