Poland syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by unilateral chest wall hypoplasia and ipsilateral upper extremity abnormalities, usually on the right side. It can be combined with other anomalies such as scapular deformity of the affected side, and hypoplasia or absence of nipple. This report describes a cholesterol granuloma (CG) of the thyroid. The patient was a 79-year-old male. The mass in the thyroid was observed by chest computed tomography (CT). Initially, he had no clinical symptoms and the mass was not palpable. However, it started and became palpable and painful. He was diagnosed to have subacute thyroiditis. Although he was administered prednisolone (PSL), the mass grew larger and more solid. Then thyroid left lobectomy was performed under general anesthesia. The histological diagnosis was CG of the thyroid. After surgery his clinical course was favorable.

A case is reported of a woman who developed untreatable diarrhea after a prior biliopancreatic diversion (BPD), attributed to the malabsorptive component. A 59-year-old patient had been treated by the general surgery department at her local hospital for a recurrent sebaceous cyst on the back of her neck. Cervical MRI showed a cystic structure, posterior to fused vertebral bodies, connected to the skin by a sinus passing through the middle of a split cord malformation. The lesion was excised via an anterior approach. Histology confirmed a benign neurenteric cyst. This rare developmental anomaly, mimicking a common acquired surgical condition, highlights the need for caution in the diagnosis of midline pathology.

Accurate preoperative assessment of fistula-in-ano is mandatory if the fistula is not to recur. In recent years, MRI has become pre-eminent for fistula assessment and recent studies have shown that not only is MRI more accurate than surgical assessment, but that surgery based on MRI can reduce further disease recurrence by approximately 75%. The main role of MRI is to alert the surgeon to fistula tracks and extensions that would otherwise have gone undetected and, thus, untreated at the time of surgical assessment under general anaesthetic.

We recorded pressures in the subacromial space with various degrees of humeral abduction. The recordings were made during open surgery and under general anaesthesia using a 2-mm-thick piezo-electric pressure transducer. A 55-year-old man consulted our hospital because of short of breath. Chest CT showed low attenuation areas and we diagnosed his illness as a chronic respiratory failure by chronic lung empysema. He was perfomed bilateral lung volume reduction surgery (VRS), after a few days who was in serious acute respiratory failure. He was treated by non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) for those. After that general condition and arterial blood gas data was improved. In the treatment of cancer, isolated limb perfusion (ILP) allows what would be a lethal systemic dose of cytotoxic drugs to be administered directly to a tumour site of an extremity.
