This case report describes the interdisciplinary management of a 58-year-old woman with a misaligned dental implant in the maxillary left lateral incisor region, causing esthetic and functional challenges. Initial assessments revealed significant bone loss around the compromised implant, an asymmetric smile, and excessive gingival display. The treatment included slow orthodontic extrusion to reposition adjacent teeth, promoting bone and periodontal regeneration, and orthodontic intrusion on the contralateral side to correct occlusal cant and improve gingival esthetics. Aligners with miniscrew

BACKGROUND: The placenta extract is used as a dietary supplement. We aimed to investigate the effects of placenta extract on periodontal disease.
CASE PRESENTATION: In this study, placenta extract supplements were found to improve the oral environment of young and middle-aged Japanese women undergoing maintenance; after three months of taking placenta extract, bleeding upon probing was reduced. In addition, two parameters, white blood cells and protein, improved in the SillHa test, suggesting that the placenta extract contributes to the reduction of gingival inflammation through its anti-infl

Orthodontic therapy is becoming a mainstay for the correction of esthetic and functional disturbances in both young and older adults. Orthodontic forces act on the periodontium and can have wide-ranging effects, from beneficial to harmful, from being a hindrance to oral hygiene maintenance to causing irreversible periodontal breakdown. In some patients, the presence of periodontal conditions like gingival recession, before start of orthodontic therapy, raises many questions. Much controversy and confusion exist regarding the need for periodontal therapy, its sequencing, especially in case of r

Chemokines and cytokines produced in gingival tissues exposed to microorganisms and microbial products in dental plaque lead to local inflammation and tissue damage seen in periodontal disease. Bates et al. 2018 [1] reported that Porphyromonas gingivalis hemagglutinin B (HagB)-induced matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) responses of single cell cultures containing dendritic cells, gingival epithelial (GE) keratinocytes, or T cells were significantly different from the MMP responses of these same cells grown in multi-cell cultures. Here we report the concentrations (pg/ml) of HagB-induced IL1α, IL6,

A patient was reported with Class II gingival recession (GR) of 5 mm. After restoring abrasion with glass ionomer cement, a full-thickness flap was raised and using blunt dissection through the buccinator and loose surrounding fascia buccal fat pad (BFP) was exposed into the mouth. It was easily spread over the maxillary roots of 14, 15, and 16. It was secured and immobilized using sutures. Postoperatively, the patient did not report swelling or trismus. At 3-year postoperative, gingival margin was at cementoenamel junction, stable and healthy and did not show any recession. Thus, it can be co

In this case of extensive gingival recession (Miller's Class II) and mild physiologic pigmentation, an alternative method for the placement of Amaris Gingiva-Colored Composite was used to produce a non-invasive, aesthetic result acceptable to the patient. In restoring the defects in the entire maxilla of this patient, the opaquers were not mixed, but applied individually, directly to various areas of the teeth. Multiple opaquers were placed in a pattern mimicking the coloring of the patient's gingiva. These were then covered with the base shade for a more aesthetic result to the patient's sati

Miller's class III gingival recession is a common entity observed in individuals, posing a difficult situation for the clinicians to treat. Large fenestration defects with cervical abrasion compromise the esthetics resulting in poor prognosis. Obtaining predictable and esthetic root coverage has become an integral part of periodontal therapy. The present case report describes a situation where class III gingival recession with cervical abrasion was seen in the lower central incisors. The patient was successfully treated with a combination of restorations (Filtek Z350(®) composite resin) to fil

OBJECTIVE: To study the clinical applicability of porcine dermal matrix for treatment of recession type defects.
METHOD AND MATERIALS: Twenty-eight gingival recessions in six patients were selected for root coverage procedures using a modified tunneling technique and porcine dermal matrix. As primary outcome, depth and width of gingival recession were assessed at baseline and at 6 and 12 months postoperatively. As a secondary outcome, the width of keratinized tissue was studied.
RESULTS: At 6 and 12 months postoperatively, mean root coverage was 65.52% and 56.82%, respectively. Complete root

We observed nonsurgical improvement of interdental papillae in a patient undergoing supportive periodontal therapy. The patient was a 47-year-old Japanese man presenting with widespread gingival recession at Daniele's papilla presence index level 3 and Miller Class I recession affecting the facial aspect of tooth number 42. Initial periodontal therapy for periodontitis was performed, included oral hygiene instruction, scaling and root planing, resulting in a reduction in inflammation. Use of an interdental brush was then suspended to allow the interdental papillae to recover. The type of tooth

Single tooth replacement with a dental implant has become an increasingly favored treatment option in the anterior maxilla; however, bone resorption following maxillary anterior tooth extraction is very common and often compromises gingival tissue for the implant restoration. Achieving predictable peri-implant esthetics requires a proper understanding and preservation of the osseous and gingival tissue surrounding the failing tooth. Therefore, the key to maintaining the interproximal papillae is to preserve the osseous support with minimally invasive extraction. An immediate implant insertion

In periodontal practice, root coverage after marginal soft tissue recession requires daily clinical decisions. Numerous longitudinal human studies have been presented to support the efficacy and predictability of different mucogingival surgical techniques for root coverage. Over the years, root coverage procedure using the subepithelial connective tissue graft with variations has emerged as the favorite surgical technique. In the case presented in this report, subepithelial connective tissue graft with embossed epithelium was used to cover Miller's class II gingival recession in the upper righ

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to present the clinical and histopathological evaluation of reactive gingival lesions, such as peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) and peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF), as exemplified in two cases.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION AND INTERVENTION: A 12- and a 13-year-old girl were referred to the Department of Pedodontics, both complaining of a painless swelling mass. After histopathological evaluation, the lesions were diagnosed as PGCG and POF. These gingival enlargements were totally resected after adequate clinical and radiological examinations. No recurre

Connective tissue grafts have been used successfully in the treatment of gingival recession. In the mid 80s and late 90s, the periodontal literature presented various techniques such as free gingival grafts, pedicle flaps, subepithelial connective tissue grafts, acellular dermal matrix grafts, and guided tissue regeneration to cover denuded root surfaces. Currently, connective tissue grafting is a reliable treatment for esthetic root coverage. This paper presents a qualitative assessment of a surgical technique that uses a connective tissue graft, including a portion of epithelium in the shape

Today many adult patients with periodontal disease demonstrate positioning of teeth that comprise their ability for proper mechanical tooth cleaning of approximal tooth surfaces. With adequate combined periodontal-orthodontic treatment it is possible to re-establish a healthy and well-functioning dentition. However, while orthodontic treatment can realign periodontally affected teeth, esthetic appearance may be compromised by gingival recession due to alveolar bone dehiscences or fenestrations in combination with a thin gingival biotype. This article reports an interdisciplinary (periodontic,

The lower labial frenum attached to the free gingival margin can promote local tension, resulting in tissue ischemia, promoting the development of gingival recession, as well as complicating oral hygiene, resulting in a local biofilm accumulation and chronic inflammation. In such cases, periodontal surgery is recommended and the local anatomic characteristics will be improved as early as school age. In this case report, a 7 years old patient had the lower labial frenum repositioned. After this procedure, the suture of the mucosa to the periosteum was performed around the surgical wound to prov

Fibromatosis is a group of disorders characterized by infiltrating fibroblastic proliferation. Among them Juvenile hyaline fibromatosis (J.H.F) is a rare, progressive, crippling autosomal recessive disorder diagnosed based on the characteristic clinicopathological findings of generalized cutaneous nodular lesions, gingival hypertrophy, flexion contractures of large joints with osteolytic lesions, and proliferating fibroblasts set within a hyalinized stroma. This disorder commonly manifests in childhood with family history of consanguinity and in siblings. A case of seven year old boy born to c

A case of 2 pregnancy tumors in the same individual and at the same site within 2 years, during 2 consecutive pregnancies, despite complete eradication of the first lesion, is described. A 27-year-old woman at 32 weeks gestation was referred for gingival swelling. Gingival enlargement was pronounced on her maxillary right side, and a hemangioma was present on the lip adjacent to this mass. Despite preventive periodontal treatment the lesion continued to grow, interfering with speech and mastication, and became painful; it was therefore removed surgically. Sixteen months later, during a subsequ

We previously reported evidence that patients with periodontitis have serum antibodies to oral Gram positive bacteria that are cross-reactive with epithelial antigens. In the present report cross-reactive epithelial antigens including CD24, lactate dehydrogenase A [LDM-A], antioxidant protein 2 [AOP 2] and nuclear factor of activated T cells 5 [NFAT 5], were identified by screening a cDNA expression library with pooled patient sera. Titres of antibodies to CD24 peptide correlated negatively with indices of periodontal disease severity. Strong expression of CD24 in the reactive periodontal epit
