The natural history of valvular pulmonary stenosis is modified by the surgical treatment of these patients. In order to assess these changes we studied the clinical and hemodynamic features of 91 patients that were treated surgically. Hemodynamic studies were performed postoperatively in 62 of them. All patients had preoperatively a right ventricular systolic pressure above 70 mm Hg and were divided into three groups according to the transvalvular gradient. This study follows patients with severe sinus bradycardia (40 beats per minute for 6 seconds or greater) in order to evaluate mortality and the effectiveness of permanent pacemaker insertion. Severe sinus bradycardia was noted on a 24-hour Holter in 95 patients. There were 64 males and 31 females with a mean age of 69 +/- 10 years. All were available for follow-up at 26 +/- 13 months. Twenty-eight required a permanent pacemaker at an average of 2 +/- 3 months after the Holter. To study the biologic behavior and natural history of this rare but challenging tumor faced by oncologists, a clinicopathologic study of 42 patients with histologically proven adrenal cortical carcinoma from Roswell Park Memorial Institute (1929--1977) was done. To investigate the course of Adriamycin-induced congestive heart failure, all Adriamycin-treated children who developed congestive heart failure at the Children's Hospital Medical Center and Sidney Farber Cancer Institute were studied. The authors report an unusual complication following the correction of a case of stress incontinence by vesico-urethral suspension using the Marshall-Marchetti procedure. An investigation was made to correlate autopsy findings of pleural plaques (PP) with the occupational history and findings of such plaques at X-ray before death. A good correlation was found between occupation and occurrence of PP at autopsy. Using strict criteria, 12.5% of all PP observed at autopsy, including small ones, were visible at X-ray. Almost half (3 of 8) of the widespread changes found at autopsy were seen on the X-rays. With more liberal roentgenological criteria 11 of the 24 cases were noted, but there were also 15 false positives.

To examine the hypothesis that familial breast cancer risk is related to estrogen metabolism, we analyzed urines of daughters of breast cancer patients and their matched controls for estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), and estriol (E3).
