The effects of perceived chronic stress and work-related factors on the risk of incident depression among German general practice personnel: a causal pathway approach using IMPROVEjob study data.

BACKGROUND: The increasing workload faced by general practitioners (GPs) and practice assistants (PrAs) contributes to chronic stress and heightens the risk of depression. Various work-related factors, including work-privacy conflict (WPC), may further exacerbate this risk. This study explores the role of work-related factors, focusing on WPC, as mediators in the association between perceived chronic stress and the risk of incident depression among German GP practice personnel. METHODS: This study included 366 German GPs and PrAs using baseline and follow-up data from the IMPROVEjob trial. We

The role of self-efficacy in self-management behaviours among patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A cross-sectional study based on the Information-Motivation-Behavioural skills model.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, incurable condition. Effective self-management behaviors can enable patients to monitor disease progression, alleviate symptoms, and enhance quality of life. However, the mechanisms underlying self-management behaviors remain unclear. This study aimed to explore the relationship between disease knowledge, coping style, social support, self-efficacy, and self-management behaviors in Chinese patients with RA, framed within the Information-Motivation-Behavioural skills model. A cross-sectional study was conducted among patients with RA from the rheumatology

Investigating the Relationship Between Disaster Preparedness Knowledge, Disaster Related Stress, and Post-Disaster Depression Among Students and Faculty in Higher Education.

The worldwide prevalence of disasters exposes students, staff, and faculty at colleges and universities to multiple disasters, potentially impacting their mental health. This study investigates the influence of cumulative disaster-related stressors on depression among 1,497 higher education participants. Results from modified Poisson regression analyses reveal that individuals exposed to cumulative stressors (COVID-19 and Hurricane Sandy) have a higher prevalence of depression (PR 4.20; 95% CI: 1.45-6.12) compared to those without such exposure. The relationship was confounded when disaster pr

The frontotemporal organization of the arcuate fasciculus and its relationship with speech perception in young and older amateur singers and non-singers.

The ability to perceive speech in noise (SPiN) declines with age. Although the etiology of SPiN decline is not well understood, accumulating evidence suggests a role for the dorsal speech stream. While age-related decline within the dorsal speech stream would negatively affect SPiN performance, experience-induced neuroplastic changes within the dorsal speech stream could positively affect SPiN performance. Here, we investigated the relationship between SPiN performance and the structure of the arcuate fasciculus (AF), which forms the white matter scaffolding of the dorsal speech stream, in agi

Effects of an evidence-based parenting program on biobehavioral stress among at-risk mothers for child maltreatment: A pilot study.

Parental stress is an important risk factor for child maltreatment (CM) perpetration. Evidence-based, parent-training programs can decrease CM perpetration risk and reduce self-reported parental stress; however, little is known about how such programs impact physiological stress correlates. In this quasi-experimental pilot study, maternal biobehavioral responses were measured in response to SafeCare®, an evidence-based program targeting CM, often implemented by social workers in child welfare settings. Maternal participants (N = 18) were recruited to complete SafeCare and repeated within-subje
