Quantitative optical coherence tomography angiography analysis of retinal capillary plexuses in diabetic eyes: Impact of phakic and pseudophakic status.

BACKGROUND: Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has revolutionized the evaluation of retinal microvasculature by enabling noninvasive quantification of capillary networks and the foveal avascular zone (FAZ). Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is associated with progressive microvascular rarefaction, but the effect of lens status on OCTA-derived vascular metrics remains underexplored. METHODS: In this prospective observational study, 107 diabetic eyes imaged between March and August 2025 at Drashti Netralaya underwent high-resolution OCTA using the Heidelberg Spectralis platform. OCTEVA sof

Effect of Circadian Blood Pressure Variations on Retinal Microvascular Structures: Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Analysis with the Nighttime Divided into Subintervals (Retinal Dawn Pattern).

Background and Objectives: Circadian fluctuations in blood pressure, particularly the non-dipping pattern characterized by the absence of a nocturnal decline, are associated with an increased risk of microvascular complications. The retina, as a highly sensitive microvascular tissue, offers a valuable window into systemic hemodynamic alterations. However, the literature lacks detailed structural analyses that evaluate all retinal regions by segmenting nighttime into specific time intervals. Notably, the early morning period (04:00-08:00), during which stress hormones such as cortisol and catec

Retinal changes in multiple sclerosis: An optical coherence tomography and angiography study.

BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune demyelinating disease of the central nervous system with neuroaxonal damage. It is the principal driver of non-traumatic disability in young adults. Visual symptoms are common and optic neuritis (ON) may be the revealing feature in up to 30% of cases. Structural optical coherence tomography (OCT) represents a biomarker of central nervous system neurodegeneration in MS. OCT-angiography (OCT-A) is a noninvasive tool allowing the study of retinal vasculature and the detection of microvascular damage in neuro-retinal diseases. In this study, we

Rats deficient in α-galactosidase A develop ocular manifestations of Fabry disease.

Fabry disease is an X-linked lysosomal storage disease caused by deficiency of α-galactosidase A. Ocular findings, such as cornea verticillata, cataracts, and retinal vascular tortuosity, serve as important diagnostic markers. We aimed to evaluate ocular phenotypes in α-galactosidase A-deficient (Fabry) rats and hypothesized that these rats would manifest ocular signs similar to those observed in patients. Slit lamp biomicroscopy was used to evaluate the cornea and lens, and retinal vasculature was examined by fluorescein angiography in WT and Fabry rats. Mass spectrometry was used to characte
