OBJECTIVE: To find the frequency of amputations of lower limbs (ALL) with the aim of designing a programme to prevent ALL in people with diabetes mellitus (DM).
DESIGN: Retrospective observation study.
SETTING: Population study in Malaga and its province.
PATIENTS: The clinical records of everyone with ALL in public or subsidized hospitals in the province of Malaga between January 1 1996 and December 31 1997 were reviewed. Traumatic or tumoural ALL were excluded. Cumulative incidence, relative risk (RR) of ALL and the mortality rate of people with DM were calculated.

This report presents a conceptual model of the relationships between personality dimensions and the four personality disorders listed in the B cluster on axis II. The hypothesis will be developed that while impulsivity is the common dimension underlying all four disorders, differences between the categories reflect the severity of impulsive traits, interactions with other personality dimensions, the effects of gender, and the influence of culture. Clinical and research implications of the model are then described.

BACKGROUND: Cluster headache (CH), though not fully characterized until this century, is a relatively common primary headache disorder.
METHODS: We reviewed pertinent literature on CH and related cephalalgias.
RESULTS: We found that CH typically occurs in middle-aged men and has a characteristic cyclic temporal pattern. Between January 1978 to December 1993, 130 cases of adrenal diseases were diagnosed and surgically treated at the National University of Malaysia. All drownings of people under 15 years of age in Tasmania from 1981 to 1993 were identified from the Tasmanian coroner's case files. Age- and sex-specific mortality rates were calculated and found to be similar to Australian drowning mortality rates. An exception was the lower drowning rate for Tasmanian females aged 0 to 4 years. Only 9 per cent of drowning deaths were caused by immersion in a swimming pool, 32 per cent of deaths occurred in dams and ponds and 21 per cent occurred in a river. In a representative population of ambulant and home-dwelling 76-year-old citizens in Sweden (n = 565), dizziness was reported in about one third of the sample and more frequent in women. This institution receives all live spina bifida patients from Newfoundland and Labrador. The aim of this study is to determine the outcome of these patients and the impact on the medical system. During the early 1970s, attention was called to the changing demographics and poor prognosis of patients with miliary tuberculosis.
