In a group of 190 white healthy subjects the skin type classification method was found valuable for differentiating subgroups with various degrees of sun sensitivity (except for 33% with borderline or unclassifiable skin type). MHC antigen expression on 20 nevi, and 35 primary and 95 metastatic melanomas was studied by immunoperoxidase techniques using monoclonal antibodies to identify the antigens on frozen tissue sections. Halo cutaneous melanoma developed in a 30-year-old woman. Following wide excision of the melanoma, she remained clinically free of tumor for 5 years. In a subsequent pregnancy, she developed metastases to the liver which became evident in the immediate postpartum period. Long-term survival associated with cutaneous hypopigmentation has been reported and occurred in our patient. The interaction between hormonal and immunologic factors and melanoma is explored.

The application of the transcutaneous bilirubinometer in screening for neonatal jaundice was evaluated in 259 full-term Chinese infants: 202 who had not received any treatment and 57 who were receiving phototherapy. One hundred and 18 children with various clinical types of vitiligo, were treated with oral trimethylpsoralen (Trisoralen, P. B. Elder Co.) followed by exposure to sunlight or an artificial ultraviolet radiation source. In 61 of the adult patients, more than 80% of the vitiliginous areas became repigmented, 18 patients re-pigmented 50-80%, 13 repigmented less than 50% and 8 patients failed to repigment at all. The correlation between the cephalo-pedal progress of clinical icterus and the serum bilirubin concentration was examined in newborn infants without blood type sensitization. In daylight, 374 observations were made, 290 on 121 mature infants and 84 on 24 premature infants.
