The clinicopathologic features of 23 patients with hematophagic histiocytosis (HH) are described. All of them exhibited increased histiocytes associated with hemophagocytosis in the marrow. Chromosome analysis was performed on 70 brain tumors. Thirty-six tumors showed clonal karyotypes characterized by many autosomal abnormalities; 20 meningiomas revealed monosomy 22 as a consistent abnormality, and 12 gliomas showed various abnormalities frequently involving chromosomes 3, 7, and 22. Between 1984 to 1991 55 children (mean age 7.0 years) were observed with a painful effusion of the hip examined by ultrasound. Children with radiologically diagnosed hip diseases were excluded. In 47 cases we found a transient synovitis of the hip which started at an average interval of 4 days in mean before admission. This paper reviews scanning electron microscopic observations of cellular elements forming various lymphoid organs. The reticular cells in the secondary lymphoid organs are stellate, smooth-surfaced forms extending slender processes to comprise a three-dimensional network. The reticular fibers are usually covered by reticular cell processes, though they are naked in certain regions. The aim of this study was to investigate the significance of histologic changes of the papilla of Vater in cases with a juxtapapillary diverticulum, with special reference to the pathogenesis of gallstones. Three hundred and sixty-two autopsy cases, mainly of aged people, were analyzed. The incidence of both diverticulum and gallstone increased with age. Two hundred and thirty-four alcohol dependent men who had all failed to improve after previous hospital-based interventions were admitted to an intensive 6-week residential rehabilitation programme conducted at a special unit in Sri Lanka. The clinical usefulness of levofloxacin, an optical active isomer of ofloxacin, was investigated on uro-genital infections. Patients who were treated with the drug included 2 with complicated urinary tract infections (UTI), 29 with chronic prostatitis and 3 with chronic non-chlamydial epididymitis. Levofloxacin was given to each patient at a dose of 300 mg or 400 mg a day for 7-14 days (average 12.0 +/- 0.5 days). Embryologically a fistula in an anorectal malformation can be regarded as an ectopic anus. Since 1984 the so-called fistula has been saved and used as the new anal canal in the surgical reconstruction of 48 patients with high or intermediate imperforate anus. A positive rectoanal inhibitory reflex indicating internal sphincter function was recorded in 32 of 43 patients investigated with anorectal manometry. These patients showed significantly better anal continence. It is concluded that there is an internal sphincter "anlage" in the fistulous connection from the bowel to the urogenital tract.

Two subjects with Ph-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in whom pustular Sweet's syndrome was diagnosed are reported. Seventy-four patients with clinical and laboratory diagnosis of candida vaginitis at Special Treatment Clinic, U.C.H., Ibadan were treated with daily dose of 400mg Ketoconazole (Nizoral) for 5 days.
