PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Adult acquired buried penis is a morbid condition characterized by complete entrapment of the phallus as a result of morbid obesity, post-surgical cicatrix formation, or primary genital lymphedema. Hygienic voiding is not possible and urinary dribbling is frequent with accompanying inflammation, skin breakdown, and infection from the chronic moisture. The end result is penile skin fibrosis resulting in permanent functional loss. Herein, we describe the etiology of adult acquired buried penis, advances in its surgical management, and quality of life outcomes with treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Several reconstructive procedures have been used in management of large tibial bone defects including bone graft, bone transport (distraction osteogenesis) using various external fixators, and vascularized bone graft. Each of these procedures has its limitations and complications. The study describes gradual medial fibular transfer using Ilizarov external fixators in management of patients with large tibial defect, either following infection or trauma.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between May 2011 and June 2013, 14 patients were prospectively included in the current study. The inclusio

INTRODUCTION: Lower limb coverage defects are sometimes associated with disruption of vascular pedicles that make it impossible to perform free flaps. In these cases the crossed leg flap is a good therapeutic alternative. T
MATERIAL AND METHODS: wo patients presented a coverage defect non-treatable with microvascularized free flap after being operated on multiple times in the lower limbs. A cross leg flap was performed stabilizing both lower limbs with an external fixator. Both patients showed a satisfactory recovery returning to walk without additional help.
CONCLUSION: Crossed leg flap sta

The main causes of acquired auricular defects are surgical treatment of skin tumors and trauma. Due to the complex anatomy of the external ear, surgical reconstruction of defects in this area is challenging for surgeons, especially in case of midhelix-antihelix involvement with significant loss of soft tissue and cartilage. Our purpose is to illustrate the main reconstructive techniques of large midhelix and antihelix defects, as well as the advantages or disadvantages associated with each surgical procedure. Primary closure/wedge technique is mainly used in elderly, multimorbid subjects where

Neck contour deformities are common among patients who present for facial rejuvenation. A thorough physical examination and photographic analysis, including an upward view of the flexed neck, enable the surgeon to determine which structures should be treated. Common causes of neck concerns include hypertrophy of the subplatysmal fat, the anterior belly of the digastric muscle, and/or the submandibular salivary glands. Partial removal of the submandibular salivary glands requires advanced knowledge of subplatysmal anatomy and surgical expertise but can be performed safely and reliably to yield

BACKGROUND: Mortality and morbidity of congenital tracheal stenosis (CTS) remain high. The aim of this study was to determine the factors predicting 12-month survival and 2-month successful extubation after tracheoplasty in patients with CTS.
METHODS: Retrospective chart reviews were conducted in patients with CTS undergoing tracheoplasty at a single institution between 1997 and 2014. Patients' characteristics at disease onset and tracheoplasty were summarized. Twelve-month survival rate and 2-month extubation rate without tracheotomy after tracheoplasty were analyzed.
RESULTS: We reviewed 8

Rectal atresia (RA) and rectal stenosis (RS) are rare anomalies with varied treatment options. A thorough literature review was done on reported cases/series of RA and RS. Based on evidence from cases managed over last 15 years, new insights into embryology were hypothesized. A comprehensive review was compiled with updated knowledge on diagnosis and management. RA is classified into five types I: II: III: IV: V as RS: RA with septal defect: RA with a fibrous cord between two atretic ends: RA with a gap: Multiple RA and/or RS. Current definitive surgical repair of these anomalies preserves the

CASE DESCRIPTION A 15-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair cat was examined for treatment of a recurrent neoplastic mass in the left upper eyelid that had been excised 6 months earlier by the referring veterinarian. CLINICAL FINDINGS An apparently nonpainful firm cutaneous mass (approx 2 × 2 mm) was located on the lateral third of the left upper eyelid near the scar from the previous surgical excision. TREATMENT AND OUTCOME Approximately one-third of the left upper lip was used as a subdermal plexus (lip-to-lid) flap to cover the defect created by en bloc excision of the eyelid mass. A br

Phallic reconstruction is an important part of management for congenital aphallia. Scrotal flap phalloplasty has been described in pediatric patients to create the appearance of a nonfunctioning phallus. We describe a modified scrotal flap technique with the addition of an acellular dermal matrix patch (AlloDerm) to provide additional girth and support to the phallus. The postoperative cosmetic outcome has been satisfactory and there is no documented complication over a 12-month follow-up. AlloDerm dermal matrix can be a safe addition to phallic reconstruction and its overall application needs
