BACKGROUND: Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare type of soft tissue sarcoma. The infrequency of ASPS is such that it accounts for <1% of all soft tissue sarcomas and <0.1% of sarcomas concerning the head and neck, primarily those involving the orbit (48%) and tongue (25%). Traditional chemotherapy or radiotherapy of ASPS is often associated with poor outcome, even after comprehensive interventions.

BACKGROUND: Claudin-4, a component of the tight junction, plays an important role in tumorigenesis and metastasis of ovarian cancer, but its role in platinum resistance has not been elucidated.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Claudin-4 expression in ovarian cancer cells was inhibited and the changes in cisplatin sensitivity were examined. Fluorescence-labeled cisplatin was used to examine whether inhibition of claudin-4 changed the cellular accumulation of cisplatin. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) commonly lacks expression of CD23. However, a significant minority of MCLs express CD23, as assessed by flow cytometric immunophenotyping (FCIP). The aims of our study were to investigate the expression of CD23 by FCIP in patients with MCL and to correlate CD23 expression with pathologic and clinical parameters, including outcome. Cholangiocarcinoma is the second most common malignant tumor of the liver. Late recontouring of the usual bulky cutaneous flap via conventional liposuction is an accepted practice and usually without fear of tissue necrosis. Muscle perforator flaps, on the other hand, initially depend only on often fragile, minuscule vessels that could readily be traumatized by any form of suction-assisted lipectomy. BACKGROUND: Extremity soft tissue infections from group A, beta-hemolytic streptococcus frequently culminate in amputation. This study compares our protocol for limb salvage with expected results.
METHODS: Patients with extremity streptococcal gangrene treated from 1989 to 1995 were reviewed. The management protocol mandated immediate, radical excision of involved skin and subcutaneous tissue, with preservation of fascia.
