OBJECTIVE: The majority of cranial defects are results of surgical intervention. The defect must be covered within resonable period of time usually after 4-6 week given the fact that the replacement of bone improve the brain circulation. Number of surgical techniques and materials are available to perform cranioplasty. Due to favorable properties we chosed ultra high molecular weight polyethylene as material. In this paper the authors show a procedure which allows tailored artificial bone replacement using state of art medical and engineering techniques.

This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to assess the 20-year survival rate and marginal bone loss (MBL) of titanium endosseous dental implants with cylindrical or conical screw-shaped designs. Only prospective studies were included. Ten studies met the inclusion criteria. These reported 1857 implants (baseline) of which 1028 were followed up for ≥20 years, during which 115 implant failures were recorded. Implant survival was estimated using a descriptive Kaplan-Meier approach accounting for censored observations. The 20-year implant survival rate was 93.0% (95% confidence inter

Background/Objectives: Patients suffering from fractures are often treated with clopidogrel during the phase of bone healing due to multiple comorbidities. Studies indicate that clopidogrel suppresses osteoblast proliferation and the formation of trabecular bone. However, it is unknown whether clopidogrel also affects fracture healing under ischemic conditions, as they may occur in multimorbid patients. Methods: To test this in the present study, a murine ischemia model was performed in CD-1 mice by ligating the right deep femoral artery to induce mild ischemia of the right lower limb. A close

INTRODUCTION: Giant cell tumor (GCT) of bone is a locally aggressive, benign neoplasm, accounting for approximately 20% of all bone tumors. While the distal femur and proximal tibia are the most common locations for GCTs, with the majority arising in the epiphyseal regions, their occurrence in the proximal femur is relatively rare, representing only 5.5% of cases. These tumors pose significant management challenges due to their tendency to cause pathological fractures, aggressive local behavior, and involvement of critical weight-bearing bones. Effective treatment requires careful consideratio

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to investigate whether peri-implant clinical parameters (modified plaque index (mPI), bleeding and/or suppuration on probing (B/SOP)) and local factors (type of prostheses, screw emergence, platform diameter, and abutment angulation) might contribute to the development of additional bone loss and peri-implantitis around dental implants.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two hundred seventy-seven external hex connection implants placed in the posterior maxilla of 124 patients were retrospectively evaluated. They were divided into two groups: physiologic bone l

Partial tibial plateau fractures may occur as a consequence of either valgus or varus trauma combined with a rotational and axial compression component.High-energy trauma may result in a more complex and multi-fragmented fracture pattern, which occurs predominantly in young people. Conversely, a low-energy mechanism may lead to a pure depression fracture in the older population with weaker bone density.Pre-operative classification of these fractures, by Müller AO, Schatzker or novel CT-based methods, helps to understand the fracture pattern and choose the surgical approach and treatment strate

BACKGROUND: Computed tomography (CT) with Hounsfield unit (HU) is being used with increasing frequency for determining bone density. Established correlations between HU and bone density have been shown in the literature. The aim of this retrospective study was to determine the bone density changes of the stabilized and adjacent segment vertebral bodies by comparing HU values before and after lumbar posterior stabilization.
METHODS: Sixteen patients who had similar diagnosis of lumbar spondylosis and stenosis were evaluated in this study. Same surgical procedures were performed to all of the p

Tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis stabilized with retrograde intramedullary nail fixation is associated with a high incidence of complications. This is especially true when performed with a bulk structural allograft and poor soft tissue quality. In select high-risk limb salvage cases, we have augmented tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis procedures stabilized using retrograde intramedullary nail fixation with a vascularized pedicled fibular onlay bone graft. We present the data from 10 such procedures with a mean follow-up period of 10.9 ± 5.4 (range 6 to 20) months involving 10 patients (9 males and

PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to histomorphometrically investigate crestal bone changes at nonsubmerged implants (Camlog) with different machined collar lengths in a dog model.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: One-stage insertion of sandblasted acid-etched screw-type implants with machined neck sizes of 1.6 mm (CAM) and 0.4 mm (CAM+) was performed in the mandibles of 4 beagle dogs. Both types of implants were inserted so that the implant shoulder (IC) exceeded the alveolar crest for 0.4 mm. Placement was followed by the connection of standard abutments. The animals were sacrificed after 2 a

INTRODUCTION: This study investigated the outcomes of augmentative plating, with or without exchange nailing, in treating AFF nonunion.
METHODS: Ten female patients who underwent augmentative plating with or without exchange nailing for AFF nonunion were retrospectively analyzed. To measure bone remodeling suppression, preoperative bone turnover markers (BTMs) were evaluated. The key outcome measures were the effectiveness of screw fixation in plating, malalignment correction via neck-shaft angle (NSA) adjustments, and improvements in ambulatory function assessed by the Koval score.
RESULTS:

This study aimed to describe a case of simultaneous guided bone regeneration (GBR) and implant placement in a patient with prior aesthetic implant failure, focusing on achieving optimal aesthetic and functional outcomes, and to perform a literature review of the current evidence. A 38-year-old male presented with an improperly positioned implant at the level of the right upper central (tooth 2.1), leading to aesthetic and functional issues. The initial assessment included a panoramic radiograph revealing marginal bone loss and an enlarged peri-implant space, necessitating implant removal. Foll

STUDY DESIGN: Narrative review.
OBJECTIVES: With an aging population, the prevalence of osteoporosis is continuously rising. As osseous integrity is crucial for bony fusion and implant stability, previous studies have shown osteoporosis to be associated with an increased risk for implant failure and higher reoperation rates after spine surgery. Thus, our review's purpose was to provide an update of evidence-based solutions in the surgical treatment of osteoporosis patients.
METHODS: We summarize the existing literature regarding changes associated with decreased bone mineral density (BMD) an

Implant design factors and the abutment connection are correlated with crestal bone stability. The aim of the present study was to evaluate a new type of screw-retained prostheses delivered on tissue-level implants with conical external vertical seal and internal hexagon connection. Implants 4.25 mm in diameter and 10 mm in length (Prama, Sweden and Martina) were placed in partially edentulous patients needing at least one implant in the healed site, having sufficient bone volume. The implant neck was positioned above the bone crest. A healing abutment was placed according to a one-stage appro

OBJECTIVE: In 1977, Tjellstrom et al. used the concept of osseointegration and implanted patients with a titanium screw as part of the first bone-anchored hearing solution. Despite good hearing outcomes with the percutaneous device, there has been a drive for the development of transcutaneous bone conduction systems because of soft tissue complications, aesthetics, and loss or failure of the abutment. This study compares audiologic and quality of life questionnaire outcomes (author-designed questionnaire) for two transcutaneous bone conduction implants.

Few reports in the literature describe the treatment experience of benign lesions of the femoral head and neck. Between July 2005 and August 2009, twenty-four patients with bone tumor of the femoral neck and head were treated at the authors' institution. Fourteen patients had pathological fractures of the femoral neck; in the other 10 patients, the bone cortex was involved. Average tumor size was 78 cc (range, 45-130 cc). The patients were treated by curettage plus bone grafting via an anterior approach (Smith-Petersen incision) and internal fixation via a lateral approach (Hardinge approach).
