There is currently no widely accepted framework to guide decision-making for preventive approaches using genetic and genomic technologies. Spinal injuries in children are a clinical challenge for emergency medicine providers. On one hand, spinal injuries are relatively rare and children are at an increased risk for an oncologic process after radiation exposure. On the other hand, spinal injuries can cause significant morbidity and mortality. A thorough history and physical examination can help risk-stratify imaging assessment to detect serious injury. This evidence-based, state-of-the art review will help clinicians understand best practices in imaging decision making for cervical and thoracolumbar spinal injuries in children.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer (PCa) frequently coexist, posing unique challenges for the clinician. This article explores how various surgical and minimally invasive therapies for BPH can be utilized in patients with PCa, including those managing with active surveillance or pursuing radiation treatment. The discussion herein highlights the efficacy, complications, and oncological implications of these treatments. Eosinophilic solid and cystic renal cell carcinoma (ESC RCC) is a recently described entity with distinct clinical, pathologic, and molecular features. However, the radiological aspects of ESC RCC have not been characterized. In this report, we describe the imaging findings of 2 ESC RCCs. We found 2 distinct imaging patterns that varied depending on histopathologic features (solid or cystic predominance). In conclusion, it is important to know the imaging characteristics and pathologic correlation of this novel neoplasm to increase its recognition and to improve the decision-making process.

Optimal management of heart failure requires accurate risk assessment. Many prognostic risk models have been proposed for patient with chronic and acute heart failure. Methodological critical issues are the data source, the outcome of interest, the choice of variables entering the model, the validation of the model in external population. Up to now, the proposed risk models can be a useful tool to help physician in the clinical decision-making. The availability of big data and of new methods of analysis may lead to developing new models in the future.
