Inappropriate treatment of traumatic dental injuries.

Traumatic dental injuries are emergencies that must be treated expediently and efficiently to reduce pain and to restore function and appearance. With an increase in the incidence of traumatic dental injuries in our community (I) it is essential that the dental practitioner has "up-to-date" knowledge of dental trauma. The peak incidences of injury are 2-4 years and 8-10 years of age, with statistics revealing 30% of children suffer trauma to the primary dentition, and 22% of children suffer trauma to the permanent dentition by the age of 14 (I). The male to female ratio is 2:1. Aside from the

Trauma quiz. Terribly troublesome, trauma teeth.

Unfortunately, we come across many traumatised teeth during our practising career. Some of these traumatic injuries are rather simple to treat whereas others provide us with a real challenge. It is absolutely essential that the diagnosis of the injury be known before any treatment is attempted. When it comes to trauma, however, defining the exact form of treatment can often be very difficult. In this paper I will discuss some of the cases that I have managed and leave it up to YOU to decide whether my treatment has been correct, incorrect or whether there is some other form of treatment that w

Anti-resorptive therapy in the osteometabolic patient affected by periodontitis. A joint position paper of the Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SIOT) and the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (SIdP).

This joint report from the Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SIOT) and the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (SIdP) aims for a consensus around the scientific rationale and clinical strategy for the management of osteoporotic patients affected by periodontitis who are undergoing anti-resorptive (AR) therapy to manage the risk of the occurrence of a medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ). Osteoporosis and periodontitis are chronic diseases with a high prevalence in aging patients, and they share some of the same pathogenetic mechanisms based upon i

Presence of Methanogenic Archaea in Necrotic Root Canal Teeth Before and After Root Canal Instrumentation-An In Vivo Study.

Methanogenic archaea facilitate metabolic activities of anaerobic bacteria, thereby amplifying infection dynamics. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of methanogenic archaea in necrotic root canals before and after irrigation, involving 81 patients with apical periodontitis. Pre-irrigation intracanal samples represented native microbial status. Positive samples were subjected to second-sample collection and allocated into Group I-control with saline and Group II-3% Sodium hypochlorite, Group III-5.25% Sodium hypochlorite, each followed by saline and ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid.

iRoot BP Plus Sustains Mitochondrial Homeostasis in Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells Subjected to Oxidative Stress.

Oxidative stress in inflamed pulp tissue compromises dental pulp stem cell survival, yet whether bioceramic materials preserve mitochondrial homeostasis under such conditions remains unclear. The present study demonstrates that iRoot BP Plus, a premixed calcium silicate cement, protects human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) from H2O2-induced oxidative injury through comprehensive mitochondrial protection. iRoot BP Plus significantly restored cell viability, reduced intracellular ROS accumulation, and stabilized mitochondrial membrane potential. Morphometric analysis revealed preserved mitochon
