BACKGROUND: In 1999 the first endo-exo femoral prosthesis (EEFP) was implanted in Germany in a patient who had suffered a traumatic above-knee amputation. This procedure involves a skeletally anchored exoprosthetic device that is inserted into the residual femur. The distal part of the implant protrudes transcutaneously and allows attachment to a prosthetic limb which provides direct force transmission to the external prosthetic components. The technique originated from dental implantology and helps to avoid possible problems resulting from treatment of amputated limbs using socket prostheses.

To estimate the health impact of bathing in urban river waters a two-step risk assessment was conducted using the example of the Ruhr River in North-Rhine Westphalia (Germany). BACKGROUND: The overall incidence of myeloid malignancies is 8.6 per 100 000 persons. Allogeneic stem-cell transplantation (SCT) is a major therapeutic option despite its risks, which include graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) and infection. In Germany, about 1600 patients with myeloid malignancies undergo SCT each year. The indications for SCT have changed since the introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) and improved methods of SCT.

INTRODUCTION: Buprenorphine is well known in the treatment of opioid dependence. Despite a high safety profile and good tolerance buprenorphine has been subject to misuse and diversion. To reduce misuse the antagonist naloxone was added and the 4:1 combination of buprenorphine-naloxone was launched in Germany in March 2007. On the basis of the results from international clinical trials a non-interventional study was conducted to gather data on safety, effectiveness, retention and acceptability of buprenorphine-naloxone in the treatment of opioid dependent patients in routine care.
