UNLABELLED: With the increased use of osseointegrated implants and with many implants functioning for a long time, the treatment of peri-implantitis has become important. BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a group of closely related inherited diseases characterized by abnormal bone fragility. The current clinical classification system delineates 6 types, one of which (type II) is so severe that mortality is 100%, either intrauterine or perinatal. The types are differentiated by clinical groups, by severity, and by the presence or absence of other features such as blue sclerae or dentinogenesis imperfecta. There are no known previous studies of mortality in OI.

OBJECTIVE: Granuloma annulare is an uncommon benign inflammatory dermatosis characterized by the formation of dermal papules with a tendency to form rings. There are several clinically distinct forms. The subcutaneous form is the most frequently encountered by radiologists, with the lesion presenting as a superficial mass. Over a 4-year period, 160 wrist arthroscopies were performed at 1 institution. Ninety-seven patients had central or nondetached ulnar peripheral tears of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC). A first-hand account is given of the epidemic of typhoid in the Goroka area as it evolved from 1984 to 1990. The monthly admissions for typhoid to Goroka Base Hospital showed a peak in 1988. The sex and age distribution showed a predominance of young adults. The results of the treatment in a group of 43 adult patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) are analyzed. All patients were induced to remission with a 7/3 schedule: cytarabine in continuous infusion during seven days and an anthracycline in push during three days; consolidation was done with the same regimen and no maintenance therapy was used. We experienced 102 cases of facial bone fracture during 16 months of 1986 to 1987. These cases were analyzed statistically concerning causes, age and locations of the fracture. These fractures have increased rapidly in number. The causes were classified into three types; occurrence during sport, traffic accident and fighting, which were equal in number. External fixation is an accepted method of treatment for many injuries, however, only a limited number of reports concern its use in open, comminuted fractures of the hand. Ten patients with eleven fractures of the proximal phalanx were treated using the AO/ASIF small external fixator. We postulate that not all maxillofacial firearm injuries need be delayed and that many may be treated early.
