Mastocytosis is a rare disease with reported high interleukin-6 (IL6) levels influencing disease severity. The present study investigated polymorphisms within the genes that encode IL6 and its receptor (IL6R) in relation to mastocytosis development in a case-control design. Here we report the case of a 67-year-old man with the chief complaints of difficulty in urination and priapism, who was eventually diagnosed with primary malignant lymphoma of the penis. In the present study, Fc epsilon R+ and Fc epsilon R- T cells were isolated from patients with the hyper-IgE syndrome and maintained in long-term cultures with interleukin 2.
