Patient Perspectives and Concerns Regarding Cataract Surgery and Cataract Surgery Sedation: A Qualitative Study.

PURPOSE OF STUDY: Given the low inherent risk posed by modern cataract surgery, there is ongoing debate regarding the need for anesthesia personnel for this procedure. However, few studies report patient perspectives about cataract surgery sedation. We sought to characterize patient perspectives regarding their experiences undergoing cataract surgery with monitored anesthesia care (MAC) and their willingness to consider cataract surgery with sedation alternatives to MAC. METHODS USED: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 9 patients (4 women) who recently underwent routine cataract s

Current practices and challenges of outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy: a narrative review.

Extended hospitalization for infection management increases inpatient care costs and the risk of healthcare-associated adverse events, including infections. The growing global demand for healthcare, the diminishing availability of hospital beds and an increasing patient preference for care within their own home have been the primary drivers of the expansion of hospital-in-the-home programmes. Such programmes include the use of IV antimicrobials in outpatient settings, known as outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT). However, OPAT practices vary globally. This review article aims to

Improving Care in Eosinophil-Associated Diseases: A Charter.

Eosinophil-associated diseases (EADs) are a range of heterogeneous conditions in which eosinophils are believed to play a critical pathological role. EADs include common illnesses such as eosinophilic asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis and rare conditions such as hypereosinophilic syndromes (HES) and eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs). EADs are associated with substantial burdens for the patient, including chronic, debilitating symptoms, increased financial burden, decreased health-related quality of life, and the need for repeated visits to multiple different healthcare profession

[Pharmaceutical care of patients with diabetes mellitus and its relationship to clinical pharmacy].

INTRODUCTION: Pharmaceutical care develops both at universities in the Czech Republic and in daily practice, and is focused on drug-related issues as a pharmacist has the broadest knowledge of the drug and offers such knowledge to other persons involved in patient care. Pharmaceutical care is part of health care and although the pharmacist is considered to be a health service officer by legislation, health insurance companies--probably due to the fact the pharmacist is paid based on the margin obtained in business activities from the purchase and sale of prescribed drugs--do not see the pharma

US multicentre randomised controlled trial protocol: Comparing Analgesic Regimen Effectiveness and Safety after surgery trial for Kids (CARES for Kids).

INTRODUCTION: Acute pain is an expected symptom for adolescents after outpatient surgery. In the USA, postoperative analgesic regimens frequently include prescription opioids. Increasing attention from clinicians, patients and other healthcare leaders has been directed toward non-opioid strategies, such as combining non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) plus acetaminophen, as potential first-line options for managing postoperative pain. However, the effectiveness and safety of home regimens that include versus exclude opioids for adolescents are unclear. The Comparing Analgesic Regime
