Terminal osseous dysplasia and pigmentary defects is a rare X-linked dominant disorder with prenatal male lethality. Affected females display multiple systemic abnormalities such as limb deformities and pigmented lesions of the face and scalp. Proliferating trichilemmal tumors are uncommon neoplasms that are usually benign, but characterized by frequent local recurrence. In this report, we describe a patient who sought treatment at our clinic for a right occiput scalp nodule measuring 1 cm in diameter. The subcutaneous lesion was mobile and without overlying skin ulceration. Psoriasis in infancy is often more therapeutically challenging than atopic and seborrheic dermatitis. The generalized nature of psoriasis and the intensity of inflammation often reduce the efficacy of topical corticosteroids. Heparin analogues in low doses have antiproliferative and immunomodulatory properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of low-dose enoxaparin administered subcutaneously in lichen planus (LP). Eighteen patients with various types of LP were treated in an open study for 6-13 weeks. Efficacy and safety data were recorded. Complete remission was observed in 11 of 18 patients (61%) and marked improvement in two (11%). Epidermal nevi are hamartomas of the skin and have multiple clinical variants, including a verrucous type. Usually verrucous epidermal nevi present at an early age, are found on the lower extremities, have a female predominance, and are refractory to treatment. Only very rarely do verrucous epidermal nevi have an adult onset. We describe a 60-year-old woman with a 5-year history of multiple verrucous plaques on her face, scalp, and neck. We report an infant with Herlitz junctional epidermolysis bullosa (JEB) presenting at birth with erosions on the scalp, thigh and periumbilical area in addition to nail abnormalities. Incontinentia pigmenti is a rare genodermatosis that most commonly involves the skin, eyes, teeth, and central nervous system. We describe it in two generations. We present whole-head magnetoencephalographic recordings from a patient suffering from trigeminally triggered left-sided hemifacial convulsions. Benign adnexal tumors of the skin, excluding pilomatrixomas, were identified in 28 patients between the ages of 4 and 20 years with a mean age of 15; 23 women and 5 men. Minoxidil, a vasodilator, was first marketed in 1979 as an oral antihypertensive. Since hypertrichosis occurred as an adverse effect in most patients treated, a 2% topical solution was developed for use in men with androgenic alopecia. Scratches found on the Engis 2 cranium have been described as perimortem and interpreted as intentional scalping marks by Russell and LeMort (Am. J. Phys. Anthropol. 69:317-323, 1986). These marks are described and compared to damage on other fossil hominids. The Engis marks have been misinterpreted. These marks are sandpaper striae formed during restoration of the vault, moulding striae formed when mold part lines were incised into the fossil and profiling striae formed when craniograms were made with sharp steel instrument tips. None of them have anything to do with prehistoric behavior.

Training in esthetic surgery focuses on correcting crooked noses, wrinkled skin, bald scalps, and other unsightly facial structures. However, little importance is placed upon facial expressions--eg, "weak," "serious," "feminine," etc. Surgeons have discovered, through experience, that a recessed chin gives one a "dumb" expression, that a drooping nose denotes an "aging" expression, and that baggy eyelids confer a "tired" expression; yet few efforts have been made to study this area in more depth. This article explores the field of facial expression and its place in facial esthetic surgery.
