Return to Sport After Bone-Patellar Tendon-Bone Autograft ACL Reconstruction in High School-Aged Athletes.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are occurring with increasing frequency in the adolescent population. Outcomes after ACL reconstruction (ACLR) are inconsistently reported in homogeneous patient populations. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: To evaluate outcomes after bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) autograft ACLR in competitive high school-aged athletes by examining return to sport (RTS), patient satisfaction, and reinjury rates. Our hypothesis was that RTS rates and satisfaction will be high and reinjury rates will be low. STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. METHODS: A

Quadriceps and hamstring tendon autografts in ACL reconstruction yield comparably good results in a prospective, randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Comparable data of functional outcomes of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using either hamstring- or quadriceps tendon grafts is controversial. This prospective, randomized controlled trial aims to provide data comparing both grafts regarding the functional outcome. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A two centre trial involving symptomatic patients 18 years of age or older with an anterior cruciate ligament tear was conducted. We randomly assigned 27 patients to quadruple hamstring tendon reconstruction and 24 to quadriceps tendon reconstruction. The patients were evaluated preop

Enthesis strength, toughness and stiffness: an image-based model comparing tendon insertions with varying bony attachment geometries.

Tendons of the body differ dramatically in their function, mechanics and range of motion, but all connect to bone via an enthesis. Effective force transfer at the enthesis enables joint stability and mobility, with strength and stiffness arising from a fibrous architecture. However, how enthesis toughness arises across tendons with diverse loading orientations remains unclear. To study this, we performed simultaneous imaging of the bone and tendon in entheses that represent the range of tendon-to-bone insertions and extended a mathematical model to account for variations in insertion and bone …

Flexor Digitorum Superficialis tendon transfer for a long-standing boutonniere deformity finger - a retrospective study of 11 cases.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

INTRODUCTION: A long-standing boutonniere deformity is challenging to treat because of well-established complex pathophysiological changes in the extensor expansion mechanism. The role of ulnar slip flexor digitorum superficialis tendon transfer for central slip reconstruction in such chronic deformities is analyzed and correlated with the functional outcome. HYPOTHESIS: Ulnar slip FDS tendon corrects the long-standing boutonniere deformity and replicates anatomical repair. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study between 2014 and 2016 and operated on 11 patients by FDS tendon transfer to

Neglected neurogenic clubfoot treated with Achilles tendon lengthening using Z-plasty, total talectomy, and tibiocalcaneal arthrodesis.

INTRODUCTION: The most common foot and ankle deformity from injury to the nervous system is equinocavovarus. This deformity comprises of equinus, cavus, varus, and adduction of the forefoot which leads to pain and poor stability in stance phase of gait. Treatment for this condition is difficult regarding literature limitation of the neurogenic clubfoot management. We reported a 18-year-old female with neglected right neurogenic clubfoot treated with 2 stage deformity correction. CASE REPORT: A 18-year-old female presented with crooked right foot since birth. It caused pain, especially during

Tibial tuberosity avulsion-fracture associated with complete distal rupture of the patellar tendon: A case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Few cases of avulsion fractures of the tibial tuberosity with simultaneous rupture of the patellar tendon have been reported in the literature. Therefore, its mechanism and incidence have not been determined conclusively. This type of fracture is considered a serious injury that requires prompt diagnosis and early surgical repair. There is no therapeutic algorithm or standard method of treatment due to the infrequency of the injury. In this case report, we conducted an exhaustive review and synthesis of the existing literature including all previously reported cases. CASE SUMMARY:

Incidence of tendon ruptures after locking plate fixation of distal radial fractures: are the cited rates still accurate?

With the introduction of the anterior locking plate in the early part of this century, there was a large change in how distal radial fractures were treated. Early articles about the techniques reported tendon ruptures occurring in as many as 10%, although studies from our unit reported rates closer to 2%. Subsequent refinements in surgical technique and improvements in plate design have been made with the aim of reducing the number of ruptures. Despite this, the original articles and their rates continue to be quoted. In this retrospective study of 798 cases treated with anterior locking plate

Return to Sport After ACL Reconstruction With a BTB Versus Hamstring Tendon Autograft: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are debilitating injuries frequently suffered by athletes. ACL reconstruction is indicated to restore knee stability and allow patients to return to prior levels of athletic performance. While existing literature suggests that patient-reported outcomes are similar between bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) and hamstring tendon (HT) autografts, there is less information comparing return-to-sport (RTS) rates between the 2 graft types. PURPOSE: To compare RTS rates among athletes undergoing primary ACL reconstruction using a BTB versus HT autograft
