The cardioprotective and anxiolytic effects of Chaihujialonggumuli granule on rats with anxiety after acute myocardial infarction is partly mediated by suppression of CXCR4/NF-κB/GSDMD pathway.

AIMS: Over-expression of CXCR4 activates nuclear translocation of NF-κB, induces high expression of NLRP3, GSDMD, IL-1β and IL-18, which promotes severe inflammatory response following myocardial infarction. Previous studies revealed inflammation induces anxiety after myocardial infarction. The Chaihujialonggumuli granule has anti-inflammatory properties and could tranquillize mind. But the mechanism of its efficacy remains unknown. This study was to investigate the possible mechanism of BFG on cardioprotective and anxiolytic. METHODS: The expression of CXCR4, NF-κB, NLRP3and GSDMD was measur

An outreach collaborative model for early identification and treatment of mental disorder in Danish workplaces.

BACKGROUND: Depression and anxiety are prevalent mental disorders among the working population with potentially high personal and financial cost. The overall aim of this study was to test the applicability of an outreach collaborative model for early identification and treatment of clinical and sub-clinical mental disorders among Danish employees. This applicability was examined by I) investigating the fractions of identified and treated clinical and subclinical cases, II) describing the distribution and characteristics of cases identified and III) investigating the effect of allocated treatme

Composite measures of physical activity and pain associate better with functional assessments than pain alone in knee osteoarthritis.

INTRODUCTION: Recent research showed that physical activity (PA)-adjusted pain measures were more strongly associated with radiographic osteoarthritis (OA) severity than an unadjusted pain measure. This exploratory study examined whether PA-adjusted pain measures were more closely associated with other key OA-related measures, compared to unadjusted pain scores. METHOD: Participants were 122 Veterans (mean age = 61.2 years, 88.5% male) with knee OA. Baseline Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) pain scores were adjusted for accelerometer-derived daily: (1) st

ENU-mutagenesis mice with a non-synonymous mutation in Grin1 exhibit abnormal anxiety-like behaviors, impaired fear memory, and decreased acoustic startle response.

BACKGROUND: The Grin1 (glutamate receptor, ionotropic, NMDA1) gene expresses a subunit of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors that is considered to play an important role in excitatory neurotransmission, synaptic plasticity, and brain development. Grin1 is a candidate susceptibility gene for neuropsychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In our previous study, we examined an N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea (ENU)-generated mutant mouse strain (Grin1(Rgsc174)/Grin1+) that has a non-synonymous mutation in Grin1. These mutant mic

Etazolate rescues behavioral deficits in chronic unpredictable mild stress model: modulation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activity and brain-derived neurotrophic factor level.

Preliminary study in our laboratory showed that etazolate produced antidepressant- and anxiolytic-like effects in rodent models, however, the ability of etazolate to produce antidepressant- and anxiolytic-like effects and underlying mechanism(s) in chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) model have not been adequately addressed. This study was aimed to investigate the beneficial effects of etazolate on CUMS-induced behavioral deficits (depression- and anxiety-like behaviors). In addition, the possible underlying mechanism(s) of etazolate in CUMS model was also investigated by measuring serum

Momentary persistence of negative interpretations as a dynamic marker of emotional distress.

Inflexible revision of negative interpretations has been implicated in depression and social anxiety. Yet evidence primarily stems from studies employing controlled cognitive tasks that rely on standardized fictional scenarios. To track how negative interpretations persist over time in an everyday life context, this study developed the Daily Life Interpretation Inflexibility Task (DL-IIT) and embedded this cognitive task in an ecological momentary assessment (EMA) protocol. The DL-IIT was designed to capture the emergence and persistence of momentary negative interpretations and to test their

Restorative effects of olfactory valence and visual environments on post-stress affective and physiological responses.

Multisensory stimulation has emerged as a promising approach to modulating affective and physiological responses. Among sensory modalities, olfaction and vision have received increasing attention due to their unique mechanisms. However, empirical research on how olfactory and visual stimuli interact to influence affective and physiological recovery following stress induction remains limited. The present study employed a mixed experimental design, with visual environment as the within-subjects factor and odor valence as the between-subjects factor. A total of 90 participants were recruited. Par

Psychometric properties of the Urdu version of the Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire (PBQ): a validation study among mothers with prenatal anxiety symptoms in Pakistan.

PURPOSE: Mother-infant bonding is crucial for the child's development and the parent's well-being, but research in this area in low- and middle-income countries is rare. We sought to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Urdu version of the Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire (PBQ) among women with prenatal anxiety symptoms in Pakistan. METHODS: This validation study used cross-sectional data within the context of a large randomized clinical trial, called Happy Mother, Healthy Baby (HMHB), conducted from April 2019 to October 2022 among women with at least mild prenatal anxiety symptoms re

Hydroxytyrosol confers resilience against the depressive, anxiogenic and cognition-disruptive effects of chronic stress.

Our understanding of the causal mechanisms of disorders such as anxiety and depression remains rudimentary. There is a pressing need to develop disease-modifying and preventative therapies that can be administered early and reduce symptom emergence. Here, we used a novel chronic unpredictable restraint stress (CURS) model in female and male rats to investigate the protective potential of biotechnologically-produced hydroxytyrosol. The CURS model produced indicators of anxiety, depression, cognitive deficits and social dysfunction in the elevated plus maze, sucrose preference test, novel object

Subjective and objective working memory deficits in the post-acute phase of COVID-19 in a clinical trial population.

IMPORTANCE: Cognitive difficulties are commonly reported following COVID-19, yet the relationship between subjective and objective working memory (WM) deficits remains unclear. Examining both types of measures may improve understanding of cognitive complaints in individuals with persistent post-COVID-19 symptoms. OBJECTIVE: This cross-sectional study aimed to describe WM deficits in a clinical trial population with self-reported persistent cognitive difficulties >6 months following COVID-19, compare the frequency of scores exceeding clinical cutoffs on subjective versus objective measures, an

The influence of mild traumatic brain injury on attentional Bias: Preliminary evidence.

OBJECTIVE: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common neurological condition associated with attentional disruption and emotional vulnerability. Although attentional bias toward emotionally salient stimuli is implicated in depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), its role in individuals with a history of TBI remains poorly understood. This study examined whether TBI moderates the associations between attentional bias and (1) depressive, anxiety, and stress symptoms, and (2) exposure to traumatic events meeting Criterion A for PTSD, defined as exposure to actual or threatene

Who is the ideal match for the modular approach to therapy for children (MATCH)? Symptom moderators of transdiagnostic treatment response.

OBJECTIVE: Comorbidity of internalizing and externalizing problems is common in youths; transdiagnostic treatments were developed partly to address comorbidity. However, little is known about how outcomes of these treatments relate to comorbidity. We examined the association between internalizing-externalizing comorbidity and symptom outcomes for the transdiagnostic Modular Approach to Therapy for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, or Conduct Problems. METHOD: We analyzed data from three randomized controlled trials. Participants (N = 400) were sorted into four categories using baseli
