Discrepancy between Cytology and Histology in Cervical Cancer Screening: a Multicenter Retrospective Study (KGOG 1040).

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is the fourth common cancer in women worldwide. The Papanicolau test is the primary screening procedure to detect abnormal cervical cells. Colposcopy is the main procedure for discriminating high-grade cervical lesions. The study aimed at clarifying the discrepancy between cervical cytology and colposcopic biopsy histology as well as confounding factors. METHODS: Eligible patients visited thirteen tertiary hospitals for colposcopic biopsy following cervical cytology and human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes between January and December 2018. Baseline characteristics

Lack of Association between Human Papillomavirus Types 6 and 11 Genetic Variants and Cervical Abnormalities: The Ludwig-McGill Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6 and 11 are mainly associated with the development of genital warts and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. We examined intratypic genetic variability of both viral types with the development of cervical cytologic abnormalities in Brazilian women. METHODS: We used PCR sequencing to characterize variants of HPVs 6 and/or 11 in cervical swabs from women in the Ludwig-McGill Cohort Study. We used a binomial generalized estimating equations (GEE) model with logit link to estimate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the association

Assessment of Preventive Behavior for Cervical Cancer with the Health Belief Model.

Introduction: Cervical cancer is a leading cause of death in developing countries. However, taking regular Pap smears screening, one of the most effective screening tests, can reduce chance of cervical cancer remarkably. The first step in health education is choosing the right model, one of the best known being the Health Belief Model (HBM). Here, we evaluated different HBM factors with regard to cervical cancer preventive behavior in Fasa, Iran. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study included 200 married women between the ages of 17 and 64 in Fasa during 2013. Participants were sel

Protocol for Compass: a randomised controlled trial of primary HPV testing versus cytology screening for cervical cancer in HPV-unvaccinated and vaccinated women aged 25-69 years living in Australia.

INTRODUCTION: Australia's National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP) currently recommends 2-year cytology in women aged 18-69 years. Following a review of the NCSP prompted by the implementation of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, the programme will transition in 2017 to 5-year primary HPV screening with partial genotyping for HPV16/18 in women aged 25-74 years. Compass is a sentinel experience for the renewed NCSP and the first prospectively randomised trial of primary HPV screening compared with cytology to be conducted in a population with high uptake of HPV vaccination. This protoco

Risk stratification of cervical disease using detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) E4 protein and cellular MCM protein in clinical liquid based cytology samples.

BACKGROUND: While human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing offers high sensitivity for the detection of significant cervical disease, its specificity is suboptimal given the high prevalence of transient HPV infections (CIN1 or less). Biomarkers to identify those suffering from low grade disease from those with high grade disease could save healthcare costs and reduce patient anxiety. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the present work was to develop and test an immunohistochemistry (IHC)-based dual viral and cellular biomarker strategy which was applicable to liquid based cytology (LBC) samples. Investigation of the Role of Training Health Volunteers in Promoting Pap Smear Test Use among Iranian Women Based on the Protection Motivation Theory.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is known as one of the most prevalent types of cancers and a major public health problem in developing countries which can be detected by Pap test, prevented, and treated. Despite the effective role of Pap test in decreasing the incidence and mortality due to cervical cancer, it is still one the most common causes of cancer-related deaths among women, especially in developing countries. Thus, this study aimed to examine the effect of educational interventions implemented by health volunteers based on protection motivation theory (PMT) on promoting Pap test use among
