PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Varicella zoster virus (VZV) reactivation results in zoster, which may be complicated by postherpetic neuralgia, myelitis, meningoencephalitis, and VZV vasculopathy. This review highlights the clinical features, laboratory abnormalities, imaging changes, and optimal treatment of each of those conditions. Because all of these neurological disorders produced by VZV reactivation can occur in the absence of rash, the virological tests proving that VZV caused disease are discussed.

The emergence of direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) for HCV infection represents a major advance in treatment. A 76-year-old man, who had been treated with interferon-α(IFN-α) for hepatitis C, was diagnosed with multiple hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC; S7/8, S8, S5, S2) with right hepatic vein tumor thrombus (Vv2). He initially underwent transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE). One month after TACE, the hepatic vein tumor thrombi extended into the inferior vena cava(Vv3). No distant metastasis was observed, and his liver function was well-preserved. Therefore, we performed a posterior segmentectomy, partial hepatectomy(S8, S5, S2), inferior vena cava tumor thrombus excision, and cholecystectomy.

BACKGROUND: : Cystic lymph node metastases have been associated with tonsil cancer. A subset of oropharyngeal cancers contain human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA. The clinical and virologic associations of cystic nodal metastasis in head and neck cancer (HNSCC) were investigated.

We aimed to evaluate the reasons for, and timing of, treatment changes in a cohort of treatment-naïve patients initiating non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI)-containing highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).
