We estimated spatial hierarchal variances and age-group covariances for seroprevalence to Leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo (LeptoH), bovine viral-diarrhea virus (BVDV) and bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BoHV-1) among 2343 cattle from 72 properties sampled in the State of Paraíba, Brazil in 2000. From each property, eight animals in each of the four age categories were evaluated. A patient with old myocardial infarction was sedated using dexmedetomidine after carotid endarterectomy with the intention of protecting the wound. Forty-four children (20 male: 24 female) with West syndrome (infantile spasms, mental retardation/regression and hypsarrhythmia) diagnosed at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (Pediatric Neurology Division of the Department of Child Health) are reported, with thirty-four (77.3%) children constituting the symptomatic group. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether primidone reduced the occurrence of apnea of prematurity in neonates with apnea resistant to theophylline.

SETTING: Neonatal intensive care unit.

To define the age-related prevalence of lactose maldigestion (LM), 218 children aged 13-72 months from a rural Gambian village were studied using a lactose breath hydrogen test. There was a significant rise in LM from 21% to 76% between the 2nd and 3rd-5th years of life (p < 0.001). Only eight children had diarrhoea within 2 weeks before the test.
