Double cancers of the gallbladder and bile duct associated with anomalous choledochopancreatic duct junction.

A rare case of double cancers of the gallbladder and bile duct associated with anomalous choledochopancreatic duct junction (ACPDJ) is reported. The patient was a 61-year-old Japanese woman who with presented right upper quadrant abdominal pain. Liver function tests results were normal. Computed tomography showed a polypoid lesion in the gallbladder, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) demonstrated ACPDJ and irregular wall of the inferior bile duct. A diagnosis of double cancers of the gallbladder and bile duct was made and a pancreaticoduodenectomy and liver bed resectio

[An unresectable colon cancer with a diffuse metastases that turned resectable following thermotherapy with chemoimmunotherapy].

Reported is the case of a 66-year-old woman who complained of a pain in the upper abdomen. A barium enema revealed a stenosis in the transverse and sigmoid colon and since her ileus worsened, an emergency operation was performed, which revealed an unresectable transverse colon cancer with a diffuse peritoneal metastases. After closing the wound, the patient was treated with local thermotherapy of the abdomen using an RF wave in combination with chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Later, since the tumor could not be palpated and the tumor markers dissipated, a reoperation was performed, and it was

Squamous epithelial cancer in metaplastic pleura following extrapleural pneumothorax for pulmonary tuberculosis.

During the period 1947-1955, 148 patients underwent extrapleural pneumolysis for pulmonary tuberculosis in Stockholm City Chest Hospital at Söderby. In 121 tuberculosis healed following operation. Ten of these later developed pain and a feeling of tension on the operated side and were operated upon with evacuation of the extrapleural sac. In four of them a highly differentiated keratinizing aquamous cell carcinoma had developed. In addition, two more cases of carinomas of the same type operated on at other hospitals are described. Five of the six patients died of cancer. Squamous cell carcinom

Therapeutic Interventions to Manage Oral Mucositis and Their Impact on Quality of Life in Cancer Patients: An Umbrella Review.

BACKGROUND: Oral mucositis (OM) is a debilitating complication of cancer therapy, particularly in head and neck cancer patients, with significant adverse effects on quality of life (QoL). Although numerous interventions have been investigated, their impact on QoL remains inconsistently reported and poorly synthesized. METHODS: An umbrella review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 and Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines. Five databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library) were searched from inception to March 2024. Reviews were eligible if they evaluated any the

Learning from what went right: a Safety-II application of the SIDER protocol to a case of occult breast cancer.

OBJECTIVES: To analyze how diagnostic success was achieved in a challenging case of occult breast cancer using the SIDER protocol, a structured Safety-II framework for reflecting on successful diagnostic processes. CASE PRESENTATION: A 56-year-old woman developed progressive pain extending from the right upper limb to the right periscapular region 8 weeks before presentation, followed by axillary pain, cutaneous changes, and lymphadenopathy. Cervical radiography, cervical magnetic resonance imaging, breast ultrasonography, and computed tomography did not identify a primary breast lesion. At p

Spontaneous Auto-Amputation of the Breast in a Patient With Advanced Malignant Fungating Wound and Distant Metastases Involving the Lungs and Left Upper Extremity: A Case Report.

Malignant fungating wounds in advanced breast cancer cause significant morbidity and psychological distress. Spontaneous auto-amputation of the breast is a rare clinical phenomenon, conventionally linked to neglected tumors rather than actively treated disease. We present a case of spontaneous auto-amputation in an extensively pretreated 60-year-old female with advanced human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer. She presented to the palliative care unit with refractory left upper extremity pain, severe tactile and thermal allodynia due to malignant brachial plexop

Multidisciplinary Management of Severe Taxane-Induced Nail Toxicity in a Breast Cancer Patient.

INTRODUCTION: Taxane-induced nail toxicity (TINT) is a relatively common but often underreported adverse effect of docetaxel-based chemotherapy that may significantly impair quality of life and functional status. Severe cases can require structured supportive care involving multiple clinical disciplines. We present a case of high-grade TINT in a patient with breast cancer successfully managed with a multidisciplinary supportive approach. CASE PRESENTATION: A 70-year-old woman with HER2-positive breast cancer received neoadjuvant TCH chemotherapy (docetaxel, cyclophosphamide, trastuzumab), fol

A Randomized Controlled Trial of Adding Deep Parasternal Intercostal Plane Block to Interpectoral-Pectoserratus Plane Block in Breast Cancer Surgery.

BACKGROUND: The interpectoral-pectoserratus plane block is expected to anesthetize the lateral breast, but it is unclear whether the deep parasternal intercostal plane block may enhance recovery by providing analgesia to the medial breast. METHODS: Patients undergoing breast cancer surgery were randomly assigned to receive either the interpectoral-pectoserratus block (single block) or interpectoral-pectoserratus combined with deep parasternal intercostal block (combined block). The primary outcome was the quality of recovery-15 questionnaire score assessed at 24 hours postoperatively. Seconda

Multiple nerve root metastasis of breast carcinoma: a report of two cases.

Nerve root metastases are extremely rare with only a handful of cases ever reported. Metastasis to sites other than the primary site is common in malignant tumors whereas spinal ganglion metastasis is extremely rare and has been only reported in individual cases. The lumbar spine tends to be more common areas of presentation whereas breast cancer metastasis has been rarely reported. We herein reported two cases of breast carcinoma metastasis to multiple spinal nerve roots. The metastasis sites were S1 nerve root in Case 1 and left L5 and bilateral cervical nerve roots in Case 2. On magnetic re
