The effect of different thickness of power ridge on torque control during anterior retraction using clear aligners in patients with periodontal disease: a finite element analysis.

BACKGROUND: Periodontal disease is a common disease and leads to the loss of supporting structures and pathologic tooth migration. In order to achieve a functionally sound and aesthetically satisfactory treatment outcome, combined orthodontic-periodontal therapy may be necessary. In this study, we focus on the anterior tooth movement when designing different thickness of power ridge for patients with periodontal disease and investigate its biomechanical effects during anterior retraction using clear aligners (CAs). METHODS: Two models of maxillary with different heights of alveolar bone were

Splicing mutation in DSPP causes dentinogenesis imperfecta and amelogenesis imperfecta.

BACKGROUND: Dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) is an extracellular matrix protein, which is highly expressed in odontoblasts and transiently expressed in presecretory ameloblasts. DSPP mutations were related to dentinogenesis imperfecta (DGI), some of which can be accompanied by amelogenesis imperfecta (AI). However, the mechanism underlying DGI and AI caused by DSPP mutations is still unclarified. This study aimed to reveal the molecular pathogenesis in a Chinese family with both DGI and AI caused by the DSPP splicing mutation. METHODS: One Chinese family with DGI and AI was recruited. Whole-e

Effect of different onlay materials and resin core thickness on stress distribution in partial coverage restorations: a 3D finite element study.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of onlay materials and resin core thickness on stress distribution in partial coverage restorations under static and thermal loading using finite element analysis (FEA). METHODS: A 3D mandibular first molar model was created from CBCT data. Four materials (zirconia, lithium disilicate [LD], polymer-infiltrated ceramic network [PICN], gold alloy [GA]) and five resin core thicknesses (1 mm to 4 mm, plus full crown control) were tested. A total of 20 models were loaded with 100 N occlusal force and thermal stresses (5-37 °C and 37-55 °C). The distribution ch

Shaping ability of NiTi reciprocating file systems R-motion and waveOne gold in mesial canals of mandibular molars; micro CT study.

The preservation of the original configurations of root canals during endodontic preparation is crucial for treatment success. Nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary systems have been refined to optimize canal shaping while minimizing iatrogenic errors. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the shaping efficacy of the novel R-Motion (RM) and the established WaveOne Gold (WG) systems using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Twenty-four mesial canals of 12 double-rooted extracted mandibular first molars were randomly assigned to either the RM or WG groups, with the mesiobuccal (MB) and mesiolingual

Prediction of birthweight with early and mid-pregnancy antenatal markers utilising machine learning and explainable artificial intelligence.

Low birthweight (LBW) is a significant health challenge worldwide, as these neonates experience both short- and long-term disabilities. Factors affecting maternal and fetal health during early to mid-pregnancy can greatly influence fetal development. Prediction of birthweight using machine learning (ML) models with antenatal data may help in better clinical management. However, the lack of explainability in these models has raised concerns within the medical community. To address this issue, our study aims to develop a more practical ML model by incorporating explainable artificial intelligenc

Molecular Phosphide Complexes of Zirconium.

Molecular ZrIV phosphides are extremely rare, with no examples containing a one-coordinated and terminal triple-bonded phosphorus atom. We report here an isolable and relatively stable Zr phosphide complex, [(PN)2Zr≡P{μ2-Na(OEt2)}]2 (4), stemming from a cyclometalated Zr-hydride, [(PN)(PN')Zr(H)] (2), and NaPH2. Complex 2 is prepared from two- or one-electron reductions of precursors [(PN)2ZrCl2] (1) or metastable ZrIII[(PN)2ZrCl], respectively. Oxidation of 2 with ClCPh3 (2 equiv) or I2 (1 equiv) resulted in re-formation of the PN ligand and isolation of the ZrIV complexes [(PN)2ZrX2] (X = Cl

A data-driven approach for the partial reconstruction of individual human molar teeth using generative deep learning.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Due to the high prevalence of dental caries, fixed dental restorations are regularly required to restore compromised teeth or replace missing teeth while retaining function and aesthetic appearance. The fabrication of dental restorations, however, remains challenging due to the complexity of the human masticatory system as well as the unique morphology of each individual dentition. Adaptation and reworking are frequently required during the insertion of fixed dental prostheses (FDPs), which increase cost and treatment time. This article proposes a data-driven approach

Passive Root Coverage Through Creeping Attachment of the Gingiva Before and After Scaling and Root Planning Therapy in the Mandibular Anterior Teeth: A Clinical Study.

Introduction Root coverage is one of the most imperative procedures in periodontal therapy. The demands from patients for aesthetics and sensitivity are some of the complaints in root exposure cases. Creeping attachment is a passive apical migration of the marginal gingiva and can be proposed as a noteworthy root coverage technique. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the position of the marginal gingiva and quantify the creeping attachment before and after the scaling and root planning (SRP) procedure. Materials and methods The present study was based on a single-centre clinical trial i

Multi-scaling allometry in human development, mammalian morphology, and tree growth.

Various animal and plant species exhibit allometric relationships among their respective traits, wherein one trait undergoes expansion as a power-law function of another due to constraints acting on growth processes. For instance, the acknowledged consensus posits that tree height scales with the two-thirds power of stem diameter. In the context of human development, it is posited that body weight scales with the second power of height. This prevalent allometric relationship derives its nomenclature from fitting two variables linearly within a logarithmic framework, thus giving rise to the ter

Lack of fibro-inflammatory response in human mammary adipose tissue in obesity.

BACKGROUND: Understanding how obesity impacts human mammary adipose tissue (MAT) biology is crucial for deciphering its role in mammary epithelium during both physiological and pathophysiological processes, including breast cancer. Hypertrophic mammary adipocytes and Crown-Like Structures are present in MAT of patients with obesity but whether these changes initiate a fibro-inflammatory response at the tissue level remains insufficiently explored. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the markers of adipose tissue dysfunction (immune cell infiltration, secretion pattern and fibrosis) in tumor-free MAT o
