INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: The rotational deformity is formed due to the instability of the fixation device used before in a spiral or oblique fracture pattern, and will create uncomfortable sensation also disturb daily activities. This condition usually treated with several methods of osteotomies and implants, that involving large wound and longer period of healing.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 27-year-old male with chief complaint of discomfort sensation when the ring finger flexed and it was disturbing the daily activities. Two years ago, the patient was diagnosed with minimally displace closed

METHOD: The FSI model, based on MRI data of an atherosclerosis patient, was used to simulate the deformations of the plaque and lumen during the process of two kinds of typical cSMT (the high-speed, low-amplitude spinal manipulation and the cervical rotatory manipulation). The biomechanical parameters were recorded, such as the highest wall shear stress (WSS), the maximum plaque wall stress (PWS), the wall tensile stress (Von mises stress, VWTS), and the strain.
RESULT: The max_WSS was 33.77 kPa in the most extensive deformation. The highest WSS region on the plaque surface was also the highe

CONTEXT: Most heritable causes of low bone mass in children occur due to mutations affecting type 1 collagen. We describe two related patients with low bone mass and fracture without mutations in the type 1 collagen genes.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We describe the index case of a 10-year-old girl with low-impact fractures in childhood and her 59-year-old father with traumatic fractures in adulthood, both with low bone mineral density. They were found to have the same heterozygous missense mutation in the WNT1 gene (p.Gly222Arg), occurring in a highly conserved WNT motif in close proximity to the Friz

PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW: There is an increasing body of evidence that the trabecular bone score (TBS), a surrogate of bone microarchitecture extracted from spine DXA, could play an important role in the management of patients with osteoporosis or at risk of fracture. The current paper reviews this published body of scientific literature on TBS and answers the most relevant clinical questions.
RECENT FINDINGS: TBS has repeatedly been proven to be predictive of fragility fractures, current and future, and this is largely independent of BMD, CRF, and the FRAX, and when used in conjunction with any

INTRODUCTION: The Cephalomedullary Nail (CMN) (Zimmer, Warsaw) was introduced in 2010 as part of a multicenter trial to evaluate its performance. At one year the CMN had results in keeping with other intramedullary devices with good union rates and low complication rates. In the second and third years of use an increased rate of implant failure was observed, towards the higher end of the 1-5% nail breakage rate seen in other studies. This study aims to evaluate if there any common features in this cohort of patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study looking at patie

This study aims to describe the epidemiological characteristics and the different anatomo-clinical entities of the fracture-separation of the medial clavicular epiphysis but also to relate the morphological and functional results of bloody reduction followed by osteosuture using non absorbable thread. Five boys and one girl (mean age 14 years) showed a closed and isolated shoulder girdle trauma. Clinical examination and medical imaging, especially CT scan, allowed the diagnosis of epiphyseal separation and to classify the degree of medial clavicular epiphysiseal ossification indicating the dir

The pathogenesis of nontraumatic osteonecrosis (ON) remains unclear. Some studies have suggested that nontraumatic ON is attributed to increased osteocytic apoptosis. To test this hypothesis, a controlled study must compare the apoptosis of osteocytes and osteoblasts in cases of ON and osteoarthritis (OA). To assess either the localized or diffuse patterns of this increased osteocytic and osteoblastic apoptosis, we evaluated both the proximal and distal regions of necrotic areas. Femoral heads resected for total hip prosthesis were included for this study. Of these, 10 were ON cases-three were

Bone strength and structure are closely associated with fracture and screw fixation, however osseous micro architecture on scaphoid has not been clearly addressed. We conducted histomorphometric study of the scaphoid using micro CT to find regional variations and differences in the scaphoid to provide better understanding of fracture mechanism and suggest optimal screw position. We divided scaphoid into eight regions and collected regional data from eleven different cadaveric scaphoids. A computer program was used to measure parameters, which includes mean subchondral bone thickness, bone mine

BACKGROUND: Traumatic facet dislocations and facet-fracture dislocations in the lower cervical spine (C2/C3 to C7/T1) are frequently associated with devastating neurological symptoms. A good outcome can only be achieved if the operator has wide and sound knowledge of reduction techniques and the best possible strategy is devised for the subsequent treatment of these severe lesions.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 1973 and 1997 a total of 117 of our patients met at least one of the following inclusion criteria: unilateral locked facet dislocation (48%), bilateral locked facet dislocations (23%),

Reinnervation after tibial fracture in the rat was studied by analyzing the occurrence of growth-associated protein 43 (GAP-43), a marker for regenerating nerve fibers, and protein gene product 9.5 (PGP-9.5), a marker for mature nerve fibers, by immunohistochemistry. At 3 days postfracture, GAP-43--immunoreactive nerve fibers were first observed in the fracture hematoma and periosteum. At 7 days postfracture, abundant sprouting of GAP-43--positive fibers was seen in the callus, hyperplastic periosteum, and edge of fibrocartilage. In the latter region, the nerve fibers were nonvascular, showing

The typical patient with post-traumatic hypopituitarism is a young adult male presenting months to years after an automobile accident, following which he was unconscious for several days. He will probably have sustained a fracture of the base of the skull and on recovery is likely to have permanent visual or other neurological sequelae. Temporary or permanent diabetes insipidus may have occurred. The features of panhypopituitarism such as weight loss, fatigue, faintness, loss of libido, and impotence may have been ascribed to depression or the "postconcussion syndrome" and often inappropriate

The treatment of severely injured extremities still presents a very difficult task for trauma orthopaedic surgeons. Despite improvements in technology and surgical/microsurgical techniques, sometimes a limb must be amputated, otherwise severe and potentially fatal complications may develop. There is a well-established belief that severe open fractures should be left open. However, Godina proved wound coverage in the first 72 h (after an injury) to be safe and to bring good final results. So early wound cover (no later than one week after an injury) with well vascularized free flaps became the

INTRODUCTION: The far cortical locking (FCL) system reduces axial stiffness in locked plating constructs while maintaining construct strength, thereby promoting secondary bone healing following fracture fixation. However, studies evaluating its efficacy compared with standard locked plating (LP) systems for upper extremity fractures remain limited. This study compared humeral shaft fractures treated with minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) using either the FCL or LP system.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analyzed 40 patients with diaphyseal humeral fractures treated with MIPO using eith

BACKGROUND: Good clinical outcomes for locking plates as an external fixator to treat tibial fractures have been reported. However, external locking plate fixation is still generally rarely performed. This study aimed to compare the stability of an external locking plate fixator with that of a conventional external fixator for extraarticular proximal tibial fractures using finite element analysis.
METHODS: Three models were constructed: (1) external locking plate fixation of proximal tibial fracture with lateral proximal tibial locking plate and 5-mm screws (ELP), (2) conventional external fi

The results were reviewed for 259 patients who had open reduction and internal fixation of 262 displaced acetabular fractures within twenty-one days after the injury. Two hundred and fifty-five hips were followed for a mean of six years (range, two to fourteen years) after the injury; the remaining seven, which clearly had a poor result, were followed for less than two years. According to the classification of Letournel and Judet, associated fracture types accounted for 208 (79 per cent) of the fractures, with both-column fractures being the most common type (ninety-two hips; 35 per cent). Osteoporosis international : a journal established as result of cooperation between the European Foundation for Osteoporosis and the National Osteoporosis Foundation of the USA2025eng
UNLABELLED: A 2022 pay-for-performance fee in Japan increased the rate of post-hip-fracture osteoporosis treatment (primarily oral agents) by 20.8 percentage points and tripled the annual uptake trend in an interrupted time-series analysis of 78,224 patients. Financial incentives embedded within national fee schedules may help close gaps in secondary fracture prevention.
PURPOSE: Although osteoporosis treatment is essential for preventing secondary fractures, many patients remain untreated after hip-fracture surgery. Accordingly, Japan introduced a three-stage reimbursement add-on, the Second

BACKGROUND: Alpha-melanocyte-stimulating-hormone (α-MSH) has been identified as a new anti-inflammatory treatment compound in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other inflammatory diseases. However, its direct effect on bone cell differentiation or on bone regeneration, which is an inflammatory process, too, has not been investigated, yet. Bone tissue is significantly affected in inflammatory joint diseases. Additionally, inflammatory signaling is essential -in bone regeneration during fracture healing. Therefore, we evaluated the impact of α-MSH-treatment on bone forming cells in an inflammatory s

BACKGROUND: This study aims to explore the prognostic value of myosteatosis in multiple myeloma (MM) and to analyze the factors influencing myosteatosis.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 182 patients treated for MM at our institution from 2009 to 2020 who underwent MRI examinations. The fatty infiltration rate (FIR) of the erector spinae and multifidus muscles at the L3 level was measured to assess the degree of myosteatosis. Patients were grouped based on fracture presence and median FIR, and group differences were compared, with P < 0.05 considered statistically significan
