PURPOSE: Pegteograstim (Neulapeg) is a recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor conjugated with methoxy-maleimide-polyethylene glycol. We conducted a single-arm study investigating its safety and noninferiority to conventional filgrastim in children and adolescents.

Autosomal dominant mutations in the signal recognition particle (SRP) 54 gene were recently described in patients with severe congenital neutropenia (SCN). Endocytic activity of phagocytic cells from armadillos infected with viruses, parasites or bacteria is unknown. PURPOSE: To describe an ocular side effect occurring with filgrastim therapy.
METHODS: Retrospective case report.
RESULTS: One week after starting therapy with intravenous filgrastim, a 66-year-old woman developed bilateral keratitis, evidenced by epithelial defects and peripheral corneal infiltrates. When filgrastim was discontinued, symptoms improved within 3 days and resolved within 2 weeks.

The availability of G-CSF increases the safety margin of chemotherapy use, especially in the management of infection. This in turn makes administration of a more intense regimen of chemotherapy possible. However, this improvement in neutropenic management could lead to an undesirable concurrent rise in thrombocytopenia risk due to the higher dose of chemotherapy administered. Although mortality from thrombocytopenia is generally quite rare, transfusions of platelets are often expensive and can be associated with side effects such as fever, hypersensitivity reaction, and occasionally infection.

On fresh leukemic cells taken from 30 patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) the membrane expression of a series of adhesion molecules including beta 2 integrins (CD11a/LFA-1, CD11b/Mac-1), selectin ligands (CD15/Le(x), CD15s/sLex) and tyrosine-phosphatase isoforms (CD45RA, CD45R0) was analyzed. The expression of these molecules was also studied in nine of these patients following the APL cells' culture with and without all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA). The fresh APL promyelocytes expressed CD45RA and CD15s on their surface, while CD11a, CD11b, CD15, and CD45R0 were constantly absent.
