The effect of a single dose of cyclophosphamide (CY) on delayed type hypersensitivity (DH) and acquired cellular resistance (ACR) to Listeria monocytogenes infection in mice was studied. Corticosteroids have been utilized as mainstay pharmacological intervention for successful organ transplantation since the beginning. Several challenges exist in establishing a balance between achieving a tolerant atmosphere in the host immune system while minimizing the long-term impact of steroids on the body. Corticosteroids are used early in all solid organ transplantation but there is wide variability across various organs and centers in the duration of use and protocols of planned steroid wean. The adverse event profile of steroids is exhaustive and across many organ systems.

Kidney transplant recipients are at a high risk for H1N1 infection associated complications during the current pandemic. Prevention of infection by immunization, together with early recognition and prompt antiviral treatment are critical. Post-exposure prophylaxis of H1N1 with oseltamivir was safe, effective and well tolerated to prevent H1N1 influenza A virus infection in newly transplanted renal allograft recipient receiving triple immunosuppression without any interaction with tacrolimus level. Oseltamivir was effective for post-exposure prophylaxis of H1N1 in close contact.

We report a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma occurring in a patient with the hyperimmunoglobulinemia E syndrome, a rare immune disorder defined by elevated immunoglobulin E levels and recurrent bacterial and fungal infections often manifesting as cold abscesses. This case further supports the notion that patients with hyperimmunoglobulinemia E have an increased risk of lymphoid malignancies and should be closely monitored. Despite a theoretic risk of severe infectious complications, chemotherapy was well tolerated and resulted in a sustained complete remission.

A patient with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) with bilateral cytomegaloviral (CMV) retinitis who had become neutropaenic from intravenous gancyclovir, was treated with a total of 16 intravitreal 2 mg/0.1 ml doses of gancyclovir in each eye under topical anaesthesia. The injections were well tolerated with no evidence of retinal toxicity. A moderate vitreous haze which did not affect vision was the only complication. The patient retained useful vision until the time of his death, three months later.
