OBJECTIVE: The clinical assessment of adenoid hypertrophy presents 2 practical challenges: (1) the need for an objective, reproducible estimate of nasopharyngeal obstruction in children when cooperation is limited and (2) the need for a reliable radiographic metric to support interdisciplinary assessment and communication between dental/orthodontic providers and otolaryngologists. To address these challenges, this study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of a novel radiographic index-Adenoid/Nasopharynx Area Ratio-derived from lateral cephalometric radiographs.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrosp

Mechanical vibration devices such as AcceleDent have been marketed as non-invasive adjuncts capable of accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. The proposed mechanism involves the stimulation of cellular activity and bone remodeling. The aim of this study was to determine whether the use of AcceleDent, in combination with clear aligner therapy, produces a measurable increase in the surface temperature of intraoral tissues. Twenty-two adult patients (mean age: 39 ± 15 years) undergoing orthodontic treatment with clear aligners (Invisalign) participated in this crossover study. Infrared thermogr

BACKGROUND: Orthodontic archwires undergo various sterilization procedures to ensure they are free of microbial contamination before clinical use. However, the impact of these sterilization methods on the surface roughness of different types of archwires is not well understood.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, we evaluated the effect of three common sterilization methods (autoclaving, dry heat, and chemical sterilization) on the surface roughness of three types of orthodontic archwires: stainless steel, nickel-titanium, and beta-titanium. A total of 90 archwire samples (30 of each type)

Maxillary protrusion combined with mandibular retraction is a highly prevalent but extremely complex maxillofacial deformity that can have a serious negative impact on patients' facial aesthetics and mental health. The traditional orthodontic treatment strategy often involves extracting 4 first premolars and conventional fixed techniques, combined with mini-implant screws, to retract the anterior teeth and improve facial protrusion. In recent years, an invisible orthodontic technique, without brackets, has become increasingly popular. However, while an invisible aligner has been used in some c

Fracture of the alveolar bone resorption is a common complication in orthodontic treatment, which mainly caused by extreme mechanical loading. However, the ferroptosis with orthodontic tooth movement(OTM) relationship has not been thoroughly described. We here analysed whether ferroptosis is involved in OTM-associated alveolar bone loss. Mouse osteoblasts (MC-3T3) and knockdown glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) MC-3T3 were stimulated with compressive force loading and ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1, a ferroptosis inhibitor), and the changes in lipid peroxidation morphology, expression of ferroptosis-relat
