Surface Display of Avian H5 and H9 Hemagglutinin Antigens on Non-Genetically Modified Lactobacillus Cells for Bivalent Oral AIV Vaccine Development.

A novel bivalent oral vaccine candidate against H5N1 and H9N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) was developed using Lactobacillus surface display … inst both H5N1 and H9N2 HA1. The system offers several advantages, including safety through non-GMO probiotics, potential for multivalent vaccine expansion, and intrinsic antigen protection by lactobacilli. These findings suggest this platform could enable development of cost-effective, multivalent AIV vaccines.

Effects of Lactobacillus helveticus KLDS 1.1105 Postbiotics and Their Exopolysaccharides on Immune Function and Gut Microbiota in Immunosuppressed Mice.

Postbiotics are inactive probiotics and their metabolites. In this study, a cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced immunosuppression mouse model was established to systematically evaluate the effects of Lactobacillus helveticus KLDS 1.1105 postbiotics (LHPs) and their exopolysaccharides (EPS) on host immune function and gut microbiota composition. The results showed that high-dose postbiotics (1200 mg/kg) and EPS (200 mg/kg) significantly restored immune organ indexes, increased activities of splenic lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells, and improved intestinal barrier integrity. Both postbiotics…

Prolonged Intestinal Ethanol Absorption and Oxidative Stress: Revisiting the Gut-Liver Axis in Alcohol-Associated Disease.

Chronic alcohol consumption induces oxidative stress not only in the liver but also in the gastrointestinal tract, where prolonged intestina … ahepatic damage. We further explore emerging therapeutic strategies-ranging from NAD+ repletion and probiotics to fecal microbiota transplantation-that target this upstream pathology. Recognizing prolonged intestinal ethanol absorption as a clinically meaningful phase offers new directions for early intervention and redox-based treatment in alcohol-associate …

Prognostic value of CRP, PCT, and TNF-a, D-lactate, DAO, and endotoxin on survival of patients with severe craniocerebral injury.

BACKGROUND: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is an important treatment method for early consciousness recovery and rehabilitation after brain trauma. In this study, we investigated the effects of hyperbaric oxygen combined with probiotics nutritional supplements (PNS) on patients with severe craniocerebral injury complicated with swallowing disorders in the Intensive care unit. METHODS: Seventy-four patients with severe craniocerebral injury who received hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the ICU of our hospital from July 2020 to October 2023 were selected for retrospective analysis. Among them, 35 receiv…

Targeting gut microbiota and its associated metabolites as a potential strategy for promoting would healing in diabetes.

Impaired healing of diabetic wounds is one of the most important complications of diabetes, often leading to lower limb amputations and incu … d diabetic wounds. This review aims to explore the potential role of the gut microbiota, especially probiotics, and its associated byproducts such as short chain fatty acids, bile acids, hydrogen sulfide, and tryptophan metabolites on wound healing to provide fresh insights and novel perspectives for the treatment of chronic wounds in diabetes.

Gut microbiota in cancer cachexia: a new frontier for research and therapy.

Cancer cachexia is a multifactorial syndrome characterized by systemic inflammation, progressive weight loss, muscle wasting, and metabolic … sis. We evaluate emerging microbiota-targeted strategies, including traditional and next-generation probiotics and fecal microbiota transplantation, as novel therapeutic avenues. A deeper understanding of host–microbiome interactions may lead to the development of more effective, personalized interventions to improve cancer cachexia patient care.

The advantages of Faecalibacterium prasnitzii in gestational diabetes mellitus.

In recent years, the incidence of metabolic disorders has exponentially increased worldwide mainly due to the misfunctioning of chemical reactions. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) occurred during pregnancy when placenta prevent absorption of sufficient insulin in mother's body. Although this disorder usually disappears after delivery, it could raise the probability of developing complications in the future. GDM is associated with adverse effects on women and their children, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes. On the other hand, administration of probiotics as a li…

Development and mechanism of an XOD-targeting fermented traditional Chinese medicine formula for gout prevention in goslings.

Xanthine oxidase (XOD) is a key target in managing gout. We developed a fermented traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula with strong XOD-inhibitory properties. Several TCMs and probiotics, including Cortex fraxini, Polygonum cuspidatum, Lactobacillus plantarum, Angelica sinensis, and Cassia twig, were selected for potent XOD inhibition. Optimized fermentation (37 °C, pH 7, 3 % inoculum) enhanced bioactive compound transformation, increasing levels of resveratrol and aesculetin. A high-protein, high-calcium diet successfully induced gout in goslings. Supplementation with fermented TCM reduc…
