The pulmonary blood distribution was examined in 17 patients with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) pre and postoperatively with macroaggregates of 99mTc-labeled human serum albumin. A 17-year-old girl presented with right upper quadrant pain and was found to have a subhepatic cyst by ultrasound and CT. A DISIDA scan showed prompt filling of both the gallbladder and a very dilated common bile duct consistent with a choledochal cyst. Following intravenous administration of cholecystokinin, there was immediate emptying of the gallbladder into the cyst. Quantitative cholecystokinin cholescintigraphy may be a useful adjunct in the differentiation of choledochal cyst from gallbladder activity.

One hundred thirty-one patients with 169 stress fractures were treated between January 1984 and January 1990. The highest incidence was in teenage girls (25.5%), and the predominant sites were tibia (31.5%) and femur (12.5%). Simultaneous clinical, scintigraphic, and macroradiographic assessments were carried out on 32 patients with hand osteoarthritis and the results at entry and one year reported. The presence and growth of osteophyte correlated with symptoms and a positive scan. The scan did not detect the radiographic features of juxta-articular radiolucencies, subchondral sclerosis, or cartilage thinning. Osteophytes, particularly when fast growing, produce pain, a 'hot' scan, and may predict disintegration of joint architecture.

Fifteen patients complaining of chronic heel pain underwent three-phase Tc-99m MDP bone scintigraphy. Ten patients demonstrated abnormal scan findings consistent with plantar fasciitis (PF) and had responded to conventional therapy. Two patients were found to have calcaneal stress fractures, and one patient demonstrated a calcaneal spur that required no treatment. The remaining two patients had normal scans and did not appear clinically to have PF. The three-phase bone scan is therefore very useful in diagnosing PF and in distinguishing it from other etiologies of the painful heel syndrome.

The symptoms of VTEC infection range from mild non-bloody diarrhoea to severe conditions such as haemorrhagic colitis (HC) and haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS). A patient presented with recurrent pheochromocytoma 10 years following the apparently successful surgical cure of a right adrenal pheochromocytoma. Conventional medical imaging techniques, (chest radiograph, abdominal ultrasound, and abdominal CT) suggested local recurrence for which surgery was planned. I-131 MIBG scintigraphy revealed disseminated metastatic disease that rendered attempts at surgical cure futile. The patient was treated with three therapeutic doses of I-131 MIBG with good symptomatic palliation and improvement of some biochemical parameters.
