Energy-Efficient Path Planning for Snake Robots Using a Deep Reinforcement Learning-Enhanced A* Algorithm.

Snake-like robots, characterized by their high flexibility and multi-joint structure, exhibit exceptional adaptability to complex terrains such as snowfields, jungles, deserts, and underwater environments. Their ability to navigate narrow spaces and circumvent obstacles makes them ideal for operations in confined or rugged environments. However, efficient motion in such conditions requires not only mechanical flexibility but also effective path planning to ensure safety, energy efficiency, and overall task performance. Most existing path planning algorithms for snake-like robots focus primaril

Loong: An Open-Source Platform for Full-Size Universal Humanoid Robot Toward Better Practicality.

In recent years, humanoid robots have made substantial advances in motion control and multimodal interaction. However, full-size humanoid robots face significant technical challenges due to their inherent geometric and physical properties, leading to large inertia of humanoid robots and substantial driving forces. These characteristics result in issues such as limited biomimetic capabilities, low control efficiency, and complex system integration, thereby restricting practical applications of full-size humanoid robots in real-world settings. To address these limitations, this paper incorporate

Analysis of Deep-Learning Methods in an ISO/TS 15066-Compliant Human-Robot Safety Framework.

Over the last years collaborative robots have gained great success in manufacturing applications where human and robot work together in close proximity. However, current ISO/TS-15066-compliant implementations often limit the efficiency of collaborative tasks due to conservative speed restrictions. For this reason, this paper introduces a deep-learning-based human-robot-safety framework (HRSF) that aims at a dynamical adaptation of robot velocities depending on the separation distance between human and robot while respecting maximum biomechanical force and pressure limits. The applicability of

Biomimetic Approach to Designing Trust-Based Robot-to-Human Object Handover in a Collaborative Assembly Task.

We presented a biomimetic approach to designing robot-to-human handover of objects in a collaborative assembly task. We developed a human-robot hybrid cell where a human and a robot collaborated with each other to perform the assembly operations of a product in a flexible manufacturing setup. Firstly, we investigated human psychology and biomechanics (kinetics and kinematics) for human-to-robot handover of an object in the human-robot collaborative set-up in three separate experimental conditions: (i) human possessed high trust in the robot, (ii) human possessed moderate trust in the robot, an

Using a Robotic Device to Quantify the Impact of Conventional Gait Training on Ankle Proprioception After Stroke.

Ankle proprioception is important for gait control and is often impaired after stroke. It is currently unclear if conventional gait training can improve ankle proprioception. Here we used a novel robotic device, Ankle Measuring Proprioceptive Device (AMPD), to quantify key aspects of ankle proprioception before and after four weeks of gait training delivered to 24 individuals who were in the chronic phase of stroke. We implemented two assessments with AMPD to quantify passive and active and dynamic/static proprioception. For the Crisscross assessment, AMPD moved the ankles past each other and

Robot-assisted inguinal hernia repair and prostatectomy: safety and outcomes from a retrospective cohort study.

Prostate cancer and inguinal hernia frequently coexist in elderly men, with 20-33% of patients undergoing radical prostatectomy also presenting with an inguinal hernia. Combining robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) with transabdominal preperitoneal (rTAPP) hernia repair offers both clinical and logistical benefits, although concerns regarding mesh-related complications remain. This retrospective cohort study analyzed 40 patients who underwent combined RARP and rTAPP hernia repair between August 2021 and September 2024. The mean operative time was 192.83 ± 32.57 min, with 54.2 ± 16.75 m

Ejaculatory function after robotic waterjet ablation for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia: a systematic review.

Robotic waterjet ablation (RWJA), known by the trade name of Aquablation, is a minimally invasive, heat-free technique for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) that offers comparable efficacy to transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Unlike TURP, RWJA utilizes targeted tissue mapping, potentially enhancing the preservation of sexual function, particularly antegrade ejaculation. This systematic review evaluated sexual outcomes following RWJA, emphasizing ejaculatory dysfunction and antegrade ejaculation preservation. A literature search conducted through January 1, 2025, in PubM

Learning Curve of Single-Port Robotic-Assisted Extraperitoneal Radical Prostatectomy: A CUSUM-Based Analysis.

Background: Single-port robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (SP-RARP) has been demonstrated to be a feasible and safe procedure. Nonetheless, the challenges of SP surgery could limit the transferability of skills from multi-port (MP) console. The aim of our study was to assess the learning curve of SP-RARP. Methods: SP-RARPs performed by a single experienced surgeon were reviewed. The surgical learning curve was assessed using risk-adjusted cumulative summation (CUSUM) methodology in terms of operative time, separately for SP-RARPs with pelvic lymphadenectomy (PLND) and without PLND. The institutional impact of robotic surgery adoption: evidence from prostate and thyroid cancers in South Korea.

The adoption of robotic surgery has significantly impacted various levels of the health system. However, previous studies lack evidence of causality regarding the impact at the institutional level. This study explores the effects of robotic surgery adoption on prostate and thyroid cancer treatments in South Korea, using the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) data from 2005 to 2017. We applied interrupted time series analysis (ITSA) to examine changes in the number of inpatient admissions and volume of surgery at institutions before and after robotic surgery adoption. For prostate cancer,

Robotic assisted left atrial appendage exclusion in patients with atrial fibrillation and intolerance to oral anticoagulation.

BACKGROUND: Oral anticoagulation (OAC) and exclusion of the left atrial appendage (LAA) greatly reduce the risk of thromboembolic events in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Patients with known intolerance to OAC, however, have limited options for transcatheter management of both AF and the LAA. Previous investigation has suggested that minimally invasive LAA exclusion via epicardial clip placement is feasible without OAC but is associated with variable increase in morbidity and mortality. This study aims to assess the safety and long-term efficacy of robotic-assisted LAA exclusion (RA-L
