The generation of a regular array of micrometre-sized pore-spanning membranes that protrude from the underlying surface as a function of osmotic pressure is reported. Giant unilamellar vesicles are spread onto non-functionalized Si/SiO(2) substrates containing a highly ordered array of cavities with pore diameters of 850 nm, an interpore distance of 4 μm and a pore depth of 10 μm. A lumen-apposing metal stent (LAMS) was placed across a benign gastrojejunostomy stricture in a patient with prior Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. The patient was lost to follow-up, and the stent remained indwelling for over 10 years without migration, bleeding, or perforation. His right eye developed hypotony maculopathy and secondary cataract, and his visual acuity decreased to 20/200 with an intraocular pressure of 4 mmHg.
