Uveitis, glaucoma, and cystoid macular edema frequently develop in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The authors describe a case of cystoid macular edema associated with juvenile idiopathic arthritis that had not responded to intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide and bevacizumab but improved significantly following intravitreal injection with a dexamethasone 0.7 mg implant.

PURPOSE: To study the various clinical manifestations associated with congenital aniridia in an Indian population.
METHODS: In this retrospective, consecutive, observational case series, all patients with the diagnosis of congenital aniridia seen at the institute from January 2005 to December 2010 were reviewed. In all patients, the demographic profile, visual acuity, and associated systemic and ocular manifestations were studied.

Ciliary body medulloepithelioma is an intraocular tumor manifesting in early childhood, rarely at birth. A unique case of intraocular malignant teratoid ciliary body medulloepithelioma in a neonate presenting as buphthalmos at birth is reported. There was rapid progression with extraocular extension within 2 months and developed regional lymph node metastasis despite enucleation. The child underwent lymph node dissection and local radiotherapy with complete remission.

PURPOSE: To determine the incidence of congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO) in premature and full-term children.
METHODS: Medical records of 200 premature and 200 full-term children from July 2004 to November 2009 at the Peri-Peri Health Center were retrospectively reviewed. Fifty-three nasolacrimal ducts in 32 premature children (21 patients were bilateral) and 9 nasolacrimal ducts in 7 full-term children (2 patients were bilateral) diagnosed as having CNLDO were retrospectively examined.

PURPOSE: This study was designed to determine the incidence rate of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants in the middle Black Sea region of Turkey.

The authors describe two brothers with Marfan syndrome who developed severe complications after iris-suture fixation of an intraocular lens (IOL). A secondary iris cyst developed in one and the IOL dislocated into the vitreous in the other, requiring pars plana vitrectomy and IOL removal. Although the visual outcome was good in both cases, severe complications of iris-suture fixated IOLs must be considered when surgical correction of aphakia is attempted in children with Marfan syndrome.

A female infant born prematurely at 23 weeks' gestational age developed bilateral hereditary cataracts at post-menstrual age 33 weeks, which precluded retinopathy of prematurity screening. The infant underwent right cataract extraction 1 week later, and retinopathy of prematurity was monitored by examining the right eye. In the seventeenth week of life (post-menstrual age 40 weeks), the cataract was removed from the left eye. Visual outcome at 19 months of age was good in both eyes. Very early cataract extraction may be necessary in premature infants to allow ROP evaluations.

BACKGROUND: Screening by neonatologists and staging by ophthalmologists is a cost-effective intervention, but inadvertent missed examinations create a high liability.
METHODS: Paper tracking, bedside schedule reminders, and a computer scheduling and reminder program were compared for speed of input and retrospective missed examination rate. A neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) process was then programmed for cloud-based distribution for inpatient and outpatient retinopathy of prematurity monitoring.
