Color Stability of Pediatric Prefabricated Crowns Exposed to Childhood Beverages.

Purpose: To evaluate changes in color stability and translucency for different zirconia crowns (ZRCs) following immersion in common childhood beverages. Methods: Twenty-four maxillary right central incisor ZRCs were obtained from NuSmile® Sprig, and Kinder Krowns® and randomly divided into four groups. Crowns were evaluated initially at baseline (control) with a spectrophotometer and immersed in Minute Maid® apple juice, Tum-E Yummies®, Gatorade®, and Kool-Aid® for 21 days to determine color and translucency. Mean and standard deviations were calculated for CIEDE2000 color differences (ΔE00),

"Assessment of Knowledge and Perceptions of Bariatric Surgery and Its Complications Among Physicians Across Medical Specialties: A Questionnaire-Based Study from Palestine ".

BACKGROUND: With rising global obesity rates and an increasing number of bariatric procedures, physician awareness and understanding of bariatric surgery are critical for optimizing patient care and ensuring timely referrals. In Palestine, however, this topic remains underexplored, underscoring the need for context-specific data. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to assess knowledge and perception gaps regarding Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) and its complications among Palestinian healthcare professionals-including specialists and residents-across both public and private sectors. To our kno

Perceptions, availability and use of vasopressors for septic shock in emergency care settings in Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: Sepsis carries a disproportionately high mortality in Sub-Saharan Africa. Current international guidelines for management of septic shock advocate for initial fluid resuscitation followed by vasopressors if there is ongoing concern for hypoperfusion. Emerging data suggest patients in sub-Saharan Africa who receives large fluid boluses may have increased mortality and thus earlier initiation of vasopressors may have clinical benefit. Little data exists on the perceptions, availability and use of vasopressors in Tanzania, which may impact the feasibility of this strategy. We aimed to

Perceived educational reassurance, pain intensity, and fear-avoidance: insights from a secondary analysis of low back pain data.

Perceived reassurance about low back pain (LBP) can influence psychological and behavioral responses to pain, including pain intensity and fear-avoidance beliefs. This study explored how messages about LBP contribute to variations in these responses. A secondary analysis of a cross-sectional study was conducted, including 957 participants with non-specific LBP who completed an online survey. The majority of participants were female (69.1%), and 55% reported acute LBP. The survey collected demographic data, pain intensity ratings using a numeric scale, fear-avoidance beliefs through the Fear-Av

Tobacco spending and the perceived cost of tobacco among smokers living with HIV and receiving treatment at outpatient clinics in Viet Nam: A mixed methods study.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco use among people living with HIV (PWH) is 2-3 times higher than among HIV-negative individuals. In Viet Nam, over 50% of men living with HIV use tobacco. Reducing smoking is important to improving disparities among PWH who smoke including their higher exposure to chronic disease. However, data on tobacco spending as well as the potential impact of tobacco policies, such as taxation, is limited among PWH. Viet Nam has one of the lowest taxes on tobacco in the world, thus underutilizing this tool. Our study aims to understand tobacco spending among PWH who smoke as well as ex

The State of Hepatitis C Elimination from the Front Lines: A Qualitative Study of Provider-Perceived Gaps to Treatment Initiation.

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis C (HCV) is a curable chronic infection, but lack of treatment uptake contributes to ongoing morbidity and mortality. State and national strategies for HCV elimination emphasize the pressing need for people with HCV to receive treatment. OBJECTIVE: To identify provider-perceived barriers that hinder the initiation of curative HCV treatment and elimination of HCV in the USA. APPROACH: Qualitative semi-structured interviews with 36 healthcare providers who have evaluated patients with HCV in New York City, Western/Central New York, and Alabama. Fluctuating salience in those living with genetic risk of motor neuron disease: A qualitative interview study.

BACKGROUND: Motor neuron disease (MND) (also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a life-limiting neurodegenerative condition. In up to 20% of people with MND, a pathogenic variant associated with autosomal dominant inheritance can be identified. Children of people carrying a pathogenic variant have a 50% chance of inheriting this and a higher, although harder to predict, chance of developing the disease compared to the general adult population. This paper explores the experience of living with the genetic risk of MND. METHODS: We undertook a UK-based interview study with 35 individuals

Perceptions, knowledge, and practices related to oral health in a group of pregnant women: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: It is well known that the prevalence of dental caries and periodontal disease is increasing in pregnant women. Dental care is mostly sufficient to prevent oral diseases and perform timely interventions. However, few pregnant women go to the dental office during this period due to a lack of knowledge. The perceptions, knowledge, and oral health practices of pregnant women have been scarcely explored and should be taken into account to propose positive interventions in this population. OBJECTIVES: To identify and explore the perceptions, knowledge, and practices of oral health in a

Thinking on your feet: Beauty and auto small businesses maneuver the risks of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization officially declared SARS-CoV-2 a pandemic, and governments and health institutions enacted various public health measures to decrease its transmission rate. The COVID-19 pandemic made occupational health disparities for small businesses more visible and created an unprecedented financial burden, particularly for those located in communities of color. In part, communities of color experienced disproportionate mortality and morbidity rates from COVID-19 due to their increased exposure. The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the public to reflect on ri

Grazier perceptions and management practices for liver fluke control in north eastern NSW, Australia.

A survey of livestock producers (graziers) located in north eastern NSW Australia, collected information on perceptions and management practices for liver fluke control in livestock. The total area farmed by the 161 respondents was 195,600 ha (ranging in size from 4 to 10,522 ha) with cattle and sheep being the dominant livestock enterprises. Overall, 80% of graziers relied exclusively on anthelmintics for liver fluke control and few of these graziers (9%) integrated parasite management (IPM) strategies to reduce disease prevalence. Of those relying on anthelmintic control, triclabendazole (TC

Dissociating the functions of three left posterior superior temporal regions that contribute to speech perception and production.

Prior studies have shown that the left posterior superior temporal sulcus (pSTS) and left temporo-parietal junction (TPJ) both contribute to phonological short-term memory, speech perception and speech production. Here, by conducting a within-subjects multi-factorial fMRI study, we dissociate the response profiles of these regions and a third region - the anterior ascending terminal branch of the left superior temporal sulcus (atSTS), which lies dorsal to pSTS and ventral to TPJ. First, we show that each region was more activated by (i) 1-back matching on visually presented verbal stimuli (wor

Microsampling to support pharmacokinetic clinical studies in pediatrics.

BACKGROUND: Conventional sampling for pharmacokinetic clinical studies requires removal of large blood volumes from patients. This can result in a physiological/emotional burden for children. Microsampling to support pharmacokinetic clinical studies in pediatrics may reduce this burden. METHODS: Parents/guardians and bedside nurses completed a questionnaire describing their perception of the use of microsampling compared to conventional sampling to collect blood samples, based on their child's participation or their own role within a paired-sample pharmacokinetic clinical study. Responses wer

A cross-sectional study of community perceptions of stigmatization amongst women affected by UN-peacekeeper perpetrated sexual exploitation and abuse.

BACKGROUND: Sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) by UN peacekeepers perpetrated against local women and girls is a concern in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). While stigma associated with sexual and gender-based violence is well documented more broadly, little is known about stigma associated with peacekeeper-perpetrated SEA. METHODS: The aim of this study was to examine how the degree of exposure to SEA affects community perceptions of a woman or girl's (1) social status (public stigma) and (2) institutional support in her community (structural stigma). Two poisson regression models wi

Unaware of the amount consumed: Systematic error in estimating food- and drink intake.

BACKGROUND: Our current food environment promotes overconsumption due to the overrepresentation of foods that have a high calorie density and can be easily consumed. These food characteristics lead to limited oro-sensory exposure, which may lead to overconsumption due to insufficient perception of the amount consumed. Better perception of the amount eaten and thus a better ability to estimate intake may help control actual food intake through prolonged inter-meal interval and smaller meal sizes. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine whether food form, flavor and portion size influ
