The human temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is involved in vital functions such as feeding and talking, while its disorder prevalence is reported to be between 5% and 12%. Functional evaluation using quantitative motion analysis tools is interesting in order to better understand normal and abnormal TMJ behavior. During the routine dissection of a cadaveric specimen, the left mylohyoid muscle was found to be innervated by both the trigeminal and hypoglossal nerves. This variation was found unilaterally. To our knowledge this dual innervation of the mylohyoid muscle is an extremely rare variation. The possibility of these variants may lead to clinical consequences such as anesthesia failure and iatrogenic injury during surgical procedures in this region. We discuss this anatomical variation and possible developmental etiologies.

Variations of the peripheral nerve plexuses are important to those clinicians who diagnose and treat patients with pathology of their parts. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic trouble of the hemoglobin synthesis inherited as an autosomal recessive trait, whose prevalence can vary from 5 to 25% in the different parts of the world. Macropolycytes are giant neutrophils found in a variety of benign and neoplastic conditions. Since megaloblastic anaemia is one of the recognised causes of macropolycytes, other blood film features of megaloblastic anaemia should be sought when they harbor hypersegmented nuclei. When they are hypolobulated and hypogranular, the occurrence of a myelodysplastic syndrome must be investigated. Finding macropolycytes in the context of a nonspecific reactive granulopoiesis is more questionable but is often associated with stressed myelopoiesis and/or granulocyte colony-stimulating factor therapy.

PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to perform a morphometric analysis of ACA and to establish significant differences, if any, with sex and age via Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA).
METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 70 patients (>20 years) for the evaluation of ACA by Digital Subtraction Angiography done on a Philips biplane system clarity (Allura FD20/20). Metopism (complete persistence of the metopic suture in adults) is a rare but not exceptional variation of the calvaria. Hypoplasia or aplasia of the frontal sinus may be associated without evident correlation. Nevertheless, a misdiagnosis of these variations may have clinical consequences, especially in a traumatic context. The aim of this paper was to report a case of metopism associated with a unilateral aplasia of the left frontal sinus, originally illustrated with 3D image fusion volume rendering reconstructions.

We report the case of a malrotated right kidney associated with giant prenatal hydronephrosis due to a non vascular extrinsic ureteropelvic compression. The kidney presented an hyper-rotation of 180° in relation to the original fetal position, with the renal hilum backward looking. At neonatal surgery we discover that the inferior pole of the kidney pushes laterally the ureteropelvic junction like a violin bridge. Two specimens of cyclotocephalic newborns, coming from museum collections, have been the subject of a comparative morphologic analysis. This one comprised an external examination and a CT scan exploration. If the craniofacial features were similar, one had a quasi-normal brain, while the second specimen displayed alobar holoprosencephaly. This observation relatively surprising is discussed in the light of current knowledge on the developmental genetics of this family of malformations.
