PURPOSE: To report a patient with a sight-threatening complication of laser-induced chorioretinal venous anastomosis for treatment of central retinal vein occlusion.
METHOD: A 69-year-old woman with a nonischemic central retinal vein occlusion underwent focal argon laser photocoagulation treatment to create a chorioretinal venous anastomosis.

The records of 10 patients with cavernous choroidal hemangiomas were reviewed. Biomicroscopic findings were typical in all cases. Indocyanine green infrared angiography was performed on 8 patients. The effects of treatment by argon laser and xenon arc photocoagulation in 165 diabetic patients with optic disc new vessel formation have been studied retrospectively. Visual acuity and degree of new vessel formation have been assessed over a period of between six months and seven years of follow-up (mean 23 months). Visual acuity improved in 36% of treated eyes and remained unchanged in 34%. Improvement was most marked in those with initially poor acuity (less than 6/36). A scaling framework unifying the markedly different and independently studied cylindrical and spherical shock convergence is presented. For ionizing argon, we show that the focal temperature becomes invariant to shock symmetry and initial shock conditions when scaled by the prefocus shock Mach number, after accounting for pressure effects. Argon laser lesions were induced to the structures of the anterior chamber angle in rabbits and cats and in a pre-enucleated infant's eye. Histopathological changes at different follow-up periods were analyzed. The argon laser beam was also applied to 28 uncontrolled glaucomatous eyes.
