INTRODUCTION: Urorectal septum malformation sequence (URSMS) is a rare congenital abnormal syndrome that is caused by the incomplete division of the cloaca. Based on whether the cloaca membrane breaks down or not, the URSMS are classified as full and partial forms. The prenatal diagnosis of URSMS remains challenging because of poor recognition to this malformation and the relatively non-specific sonographic features. We present a case of Gram-negative neurosurgical meningitis in a neonate, refractory to optimal intravenous therapy and removal of ventriculoperitoneal shunt. Cerebrospinal fluid was sterilized within 24 hours using intraventricular colistin. This is the first report of intraventricular colistin use in neonatal meningitis caused by Enterobacter cloacae.

Cryptosporidium oocysts were found in the feces of 16 of 20 (80%) 17-day-old and 38 of 100 (38%) 24-day-old turkeys in a healthy commercial flock in central Iowa. Mean dimensions of 50 oocysts were 4.5 x 5.3 micron.
