Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment in Prison (DECISION) care pathway and training package: protocol for a realist-informed mixed-methods feasibility study.

INTRODUCTION: Recent research indicates that around 8% of older people living in prison have signs or symptoms of dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI), yet the care they receive is not equivalent to care in the community and this means their needs may not be met. We co-developed an intervention specifically for older people living in prison with dementia/MCI (Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment in prison care pathway and training package-DECISION). To date, this has not been implemented or evaluated. This paper presents our protocol for a study to assess the feasibility and acceptabi

Evaluating usability and acceptance of a socially assistive robot supported cognitive training for depression - results of the randomized controlled pilot study 'AMIGA'.

The integration of socially assistive robots (SARs) in mental healthcare offers promising opportunities to enhance traditional treatments. The humanoid SAR "Pepper" has shown potential for supporting cognitive and emotional interventions for individuals. While SAR acceptance has been explored in general healthcare, limited evidence exists regarding its usability and acceptance among individuals with affective disorders. This study aimed to assess the usability and acceptance of "Pepper" as an adjunct motivational technology in combination with tablet-based cognitive training, compared to table…

Virtual Reality Sensing Technologies in Student Soccer Training: A Systematic Review of Tracking Systems and Perceptual-Cognitive, Physical, Tactical, and Educational Outcomes.

Soccer requires rapid tactical decision-making, perceptual-cognitive processing, and coordinated physical execution, making it a relevant application domain for virtual reality (VR). VR systems integrate head-mounted displays, inertial measurement units, eye-tracking sensors, and electroencephalographic interfaces to support training, assessment, rehabilitation, and engagement. However, evidence remains fragmented across populations, study designs, sensing configurations, and research purposes, limiting conclusions about effectiveness and real-world application. Following PRISMA 2020, this sys

Visual attention during non-immersive virtual reality balance training in older adults with mild to moderate cognitive impairment: an eye-tracking study.

BACKGROUND: Older adults with cognitive impairment often present with balance deficits, reduced walking speed, and attentional difficulties-particularly in executive function. These challenges increase fall risk and complicate traditional rehabilitation approaches. Eye-tracking technology offers an objective way to evaluate attention by analyzing oculomotor behavior during tasks, but its use in clinical rehabilitation contexts is still limited. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to investigate visual attention using eye-tracking metrics during a non-immersive virtual reality-based balance tr

Increased Training Intensity Induces Proper Membrane Localization of Actin Remodeling Proteins in the Hippocampus Preventing Cognitive Deficits: Implications for Fragile X Syndrome.

Behavioral intervention therapy has proven beneficial in the treatment of autism and intellectual disabilities (ID), raising the possibility of certain changes in molecular mechanisms activated by these interventions that may promote learning. Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by autistic features and intellectual disability and can serve as a model to examine mechanisms that promote learning. FXS results from mutations in the fragile X mental retardation 1 gene (Fmr1) that prevents expression of the Fmr1 protein (FMRP), a messenger RNA (mRNA) translation

Internet-delivered cognitive control training as a preventive intervention for remitted depressed patients: Evidence from a double-blind randomized controlled trial study.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive control impairments may place remitted depressed (RMD) patients at increased risk for developing future depressive symptomatology by disrupting emotion regulation processes. Research has shown that directly targeting cognitive control has beneficial effects on high trait ruminators and clinically depressed patients. The current study tested whether internet-delivered cognitive control training (CCT) can be used as an intervention to increase resilience to depression in RMD patients. METHOD: Effects of CCT were assessed using a double-blind randomized controlled design. R

Improved function of hemiplegic upper extremity after cognitive sensory motor training therapy in chronic stroke patients: preliminary report of a case series.

BACKGROUND: Recovery of upper extremity functions after a severe stroke and traumatic brain injuries (TBI) have generally been less than satisfactory. The "cognitive sensory motor training therapy" is a relatively new method claimed to improve motor control using a specific type of repetitive sensory and motor re-learning protocol. There has been no previous study demonstrating the effectiveness of this method. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the value of the cognitive sensory motor training therapy to improve upper extremity motor function in chronic stroke and TBI patients. MATERIAL AND METHOD:

Feasibility of a 12-month, remotely delivered and supported aerobic walking exercise training program for brain and cognition in adults with multiple sclerosis.

INTRODUCTION: Thalamic atrophy is a highly common and disabling consequence of multiple sclerosis (MS) that occurs early in the disease process, progressively worsens over time, and negatively impacts functional and quality of life outcomes in patients. Long-term aerobic walking exercise training (ET), in particular, represents a promising approach for mitigating MS-related thalamic atrophy and its downstream consequences in persons with MS. METHODS: The present early-stage trial examined the feasibility of two different doses of a 12-month remotely delivered and supported aerobic walking ET

Study design and protocol of a low to high intensity computer-based cognitive training at home in supplement to standard care in patients with AD.

INTRODUCTION: Recent studies on cognitive training in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) showed positive long-term effects on cognition and daily living, suggesting remote computer-based programmes to increase training sessions while reducing patient's travelling. The aim of this study is to examine short-term and long-term benefits of computer-based cognitive training at home in patients with mild to moderate AD, as a complement to the training in speech and language therapists' (SLT) offices. The secondary purpose is to study training frequency required to obtain noticeable effects. MET…

Dose-Dependent Effects of Acute Caffeine Ingestion on Physical and Cognitive Performance in Trained Female Handball Players: A Randomized Crossover Study.

Handball requires athletes to sustain intermittent high-intensity effort while maintaining rapid cognitive processing and technical skills. Caffeine is widely used as an ergogenic aid, yet its dose-dependent effects across physical, cognitive, and technical performance outcomes remain unclear in female handball players. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study examined the acute effects of low-dose caffeine (LCAF; 3 mg/kg), moderate-dose caffeine (MCAF; 6 mg/kg), and placebo (PLA) in trained female handball players. Participants (n = 20) completed three experimental se

The effect of mental rotation training of hands for upper extremity motor function and cognition in people post-stroke: A randomized controlled trial.

Stroke sequelae impose heavy socioeconomic burdens. The hand mental rotation task (HMRT), imagined hand rotation training, may boost upper-limb motor and cognitive recovery yet lacks sufficient stroke rehabilitation evidence. Neuroimaging and transcranial magnetic stimulation research have verified its neural mechanisms. This study explored HMRT's effects on post-stroke motor and cognitive function. Thirty stroke survivors (18 ischemic, 12 hemorrhagic) with moderate-severe upper limb dysfunction were randomized to an intervention group (IG) or a control group (CG), with a mean Fugl-Meyer Asses
