Malaria transmitted by blood transfusion is rare in the United States, with an estimated incidence of <0.3 cases per million transfused blood units. We examined partner notification among syphilitic pregnant women in Nairobi. At delivery, 377 women were found to be rapid plasma reagin (RPR) reactive. Data were available for 94% of the partners of women who were tested during pregnancy; over 67% of the partners had received syphilis treatment while 23% had not sought treatment mainly because they felt healthy. The purpose of this study was to establish the extent of undernotification of tuberculosis in AIDS patients resident in 2 inner London local authorities. For residents of the 2 authorities, statutory notifications of tuberculosis between 1986 and 1992 were compared, using soundex codes of surnames, sex and year of birth, with AIDS cases reported to the Public Health Laboratory Service (PHLS) AIDS Centre during the same period where TB had been recorded on the AIDS report form. In 36 of 613 AIDS cases reported as residents of the 2 authorities tuberculosis was recorded on the AIDS report form.

Prior to the implementation of social distancing measures, we monitored the close family contacts of the first 400 cases of COVID-19 in Singapore for SARS-CoV-2 infection to determine the risk of infection with age. Adjusting for gender and household size, the risk of COVID-19 infection in household contacts was found to increase with age.
