A very rare syndrome and its rare urological complication: Incomplet bladder duplication in Robinow syndrome.

OBJECTIVES: Robinow syndrome is a very rare syndrome characterized by short stature, extremity deformities, costovertebral abnormalities, renal/external genital malformations, and fetal facial appearance. It might be inherited by either autosomal dominant or severe recessive form. Diagnosis is generally established by the aid of genetic mutation and phenotypic findings. The urogenital component of the disease frequently presents with microgenitalia such as micropenis and/or cryptorchidism. METHODS: Herein, a four-year-old boy with Robinow syndrome accompanied by incomplete bladder duplication

[Ritscher-Schinzel syndrome caused by CCDC22 gene mutation: a case report].

A boy, aged 1 month, attended the hospital due to feeding difficulty and hypotonia. He had unusual facial features (prominent forehead, hypertelorism, ptosis of the lateral canthus, thin upper lip, and low-set ears), hypotonia, and a decreased score of neonatal behavioral neurological assessment. Heart ultrasound showed atrial septal defect. Cranial MRI showed widened supratentorial ventricle, cerebral cistern, and subarachnoid space. High-throughput whole-exome sequencing of the boy detected a hemizygous mutation, c.315_320delTGAGCG, in the CCDC22 gene, which came from his mother, while such

Clinical and molecular characterization of a second case of 7p22.1 microduplication.

The use of high-resolution microarray technology for investigation of patients with intellectual disability and/or congenital anomalies provided the unique possibility to identify new microdeletion/microduplication syndromes and discover the dosage sensitive genes, which are implicated in the manifestation of various genetic conditions. Microduplication of the 7p22.1 region, 1.7 Mb in size, has very recently been reported, representing the smallest interstitional 7p duplication, associated with specific facial features and speech delay. We report on a patient with an even smaller 7p22.1 de nov

Septopreoptic holoprosencephaly: a mild subtype associated with midline craniofacial anomalies.

HPE is a congenital brain malformation characterized by failure of the prosencephalon to divide into 2 hemispheres. We have identified 7 patients who have a mild subtype of HPE in which the midline fusion was restricted to the septal region or preoptic region of the telencephalon. This subtype, which we call septopreoptic HPE, falls in the spectrum of lobar HPE, but lacks significant frontal neocortical fusion seen in lobar HPE. Other imaging characteristics include thickened or dysplastic fornix, absent or hypoplastic anterior CC, and single unpaired ACA. The SP was fully formed in 4, partial

Marshall-Smith syndrome and septo-optic dysplasia: an unreported association.

Marshall-Smith syndrome is characterized by advanced bone age, failure to thrive, respiratory problems, dysmorphic facial features, and variable mental retardation. Less than 40 cases have been reported in the literature, mostly as single case reports or small series. We describe a female newborn who, in addition to demonstrating many of the well described features of Marshall-Smith syndrome, had septo-optic dysplasia.

Complex toe syndactyly with characteristic facial phenotype: a new syndrome?

Nonsyndromic syndactyly is a common, heterogeneous hereditary condition of webbed fingers and toes that can be cutaneous or bony, unilateral or bilateral. We describe a patient with complex toe syndactyly and oligodactyly, some interesting skeletal hand findings and atypical facial features without other case like this described before. Cenani-Lenz syndrome (CLS) is a rare disorder with total syndactyly and irregular synostosis of carpal, metacarpal and phalanges, it may involve ulna and radius and digital rays may be absent, some of these were described with atypical facial features and one p

Craniofacial anomalies, humero-radial synostosis, rhizomelic limb shortness: previously unrecognized autosomal recessive syndrome.

Humero-radial synostosis (HRS) is a rare skeletal anomaly that might be seen in some craniosynostosis syndromes, notably Antley-Bixler syndrome, and in other disorders in association with skeletal anomalies. Here we report on two daughters of first cousin Saudi parents with syndromic HRS. Both patients had distinctive craniofacial features including cranium bifidum occultum, hypertelorism, epicanthus inversus, capillary hemangiomata, and malformed ears. Musculoskeletal examination revealed rhizomelic shortness with normal hands and feet. Skeletal survey showed bilateral HRS with no evidence of

Further evidence of genetic heterogeneity in Costello syndrome: involvement of the KRAS gene.

Costello syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder comprising growth deficiency, mental retardation, curly hair, coarse facial features, nasal papillomata, low-set ears with large lobes, cardiac anomalies, redundant skin in palms and soles with prominent creases, dark skin, and propensity to certain solid tumors. HRAS mutations have been implicated in approximately 85% of the affected cases. The clinical overlap among Costello, Noonan, and cardiofaciocutaneous syndromes is now better understood given their common molecular background, such that all these syndromes constitute a class of disord

Primary central white matter hypoplasia of the neocortex.

Leukodystrophies, or diseases of the white matter, represent acute or ongoing damage to the oligodendrocytes of the central nervous system. Early childhood white matter disease is most commonly observed after hypoxic ischemic insults, with acute magnetic resonance imaging changes followed by atrophy or periventricular leukomalacia. Dysmyelination occurring in the setting of inborn errors of metabolism is characterized by progressive changes with high signal intensity in white matter on magnetic resonance imaging. This report presents a patient whose magnetic resonance imaging scans demonstrate

Hepatic fibrosis in Kabuki syndrome.

Kabuki (Niikawa-Kuroki) syndrome (KS) is characterized by a distinctive face, mental retardation, growth deficiency, skeletal anomalies, dermatoglyphic abnormalities, palatal anomalies, congenital heart defects, and urogenital malformations. Congenital hepatic abnormalities have been sporadically described in patients with KS from the literature, consisting of extrahepatic biliary atresia, neonatal sclerosing cholangitis, and severe neonatal jaundice. We report here on an additional patient with a congenital abnormality of the liver consisting of hepatic fibrosis. To our knowledge, idiopathic

New case of Cole-Carpenter syndrome.

We describe a girl with a severe progressive type of osteogenesis imperfecta, in association with multisutural craniosynostosis, growth failure, and craniofacial findings including ocular proptosis, marked frontal bossing, midface hypoplasia, and micrognathia. Collagen analysis was normal. These features are consistent with the diagnosis of Cole-Carpenter syndrome. This report provides further evidence for the existence of this rare genetic entity.

Floating Harbor syndrome. Case report and further syndrome delineation.

Floating Harbor syndrome was diagnosed in a 9 years old girl on the basis of short stature, delayed bone age, mild mental retardation, speech problems and specific craniofacial features. A detailed phenotype description is given and evaluated together with 18 other published case reports according to the concept of the Munich Dysmorphology Database (Stengel-Rutkowski et al., 1996) with the aim to delineate the spectrum of clinical and anthropological features.

Familial patent ductus arteriosus: a further case of CHAR syndrome.

We report on a family with patent ductus arteriosus, a distinctive facial appearance with eyebrow flare, a short nose and "duck-bill lips," polydactyly, and fifth finger clinodactyly. The facial traits were consistent with CHAR syndrome. We provide further evidence for evolution of the phenotype with age and describe the previously unreported finding of interstitial polydactyly in this syndrome.
