Evaluation of the mode of failure of abutments supporting implant-supported fixed partial dentures via different retention techniques.

OBJECTIVE: The objective was to in-vitro evaluate the mode of failure of abutments supporting fixed partial dentures (FPDs) via different retention techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-six implants with diameter and length of 4.5 and 13 mm, respectively, were used to prepare 18 samples of FPDs. Based on the variations on abutment's design, the FPDs were divided into three groups: Group A is cement-based retention; Group B is screw-based retention; and Group C is multiunit screw-based retention. Using a chewing simulator, cyclic loads of 1,250,000 load cycles with the load of 70N were app

[Research progress in artificial intelligence-driven digital removable partial denture clinical diagnosis and treatment].

Clinical practice of digital removable partial denture (RPD) has undergone two profound transformations, shifting from partial digital substitution to full-process digital intelligent empowerment. In the first transformation, the application of digital technology restructured the RPD clinical workflow and significantly improved the low efficiency and insufficient accuracy of traditional techniques. However, it has failed to fundamentally address issues such as efficient and scientific design as well as technological breakthroughs for better clinical outcomes. At present, artificial intelligenc

Minimally Invasive Cantilever RBFPD Using a 270-Degree Veneer Abutment in a Young Cleft Patient: A Clinical Adhesive Technique.

Adhesive cantilever resin-bonded bridges (RBBs) are a minimally invasive option for replacing maxillary lateral incisors in young cleft patients, in whom implant placement is often delayed until completion of craniofacial growth or declined due to surgical burden. Beyond material selection, the outcome depends critically on abutment design and enamel preservation. This technique-focused case report describes a 17-year-old unilateral cleft patient treated with two lithium disilicate veneers (#11, #12) and a cantilever resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) replacing #22. Tooth #21 receive

Intestinal obstruction secondary to perforation of Meckel's diverticulum caused by dentures: a case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract. However, MD is rare in clinical practice, and perforation of a MD by a foreign body is even rarer. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult because there is often insufficient information; therefore it is usually diagnosed intraoperatively. Although rare, it should be considered as a differential diagnosis in patients who have ingested foreign bodies. CASE PRESENTATION: The following is the case of a 52-year-old female patient who was admitted because of generalized abdominal pain for 5

Comparative in vitro study on biomechanical behavior of zirconia and polyetheretherketone biomaterials exposed to experimental loading conditions in a prototypal simulator.

Zirconia and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) are two biomaterials widely investigated as substitute for metals in oral prosthetic rehabilitation. To achieve a proper biomechanical behavior, the prosthetic biomaterials must ensure a good resistance to loads, as this is a crucial characteristic enabling their use in dental applications. The aim of this study was to investigate differences in the fracture resistance of different biomaterials in an experimental environment: fixed partial dentures (FPDs) screwed in a prototype of biomimetic mandible. 10 Samples of FPDs were allocated in 2 groups (A and

Mapping, profiling and clustering of pressure pain threshold (PPT) in edentulous oral mucosa.

OBJECTIVES: Edentulous oral mucosa involves different tissue types, various innervation and wound healing process. We hypothesized that pressure pain threshold (PPT) of edentulous oral mucosa varies significantly among different regions. The objective of this study is to examine regional differences and correlations of PPT in edentulous oral mucosa. METHODS: Pain threshold (PPT) was measured at 112 sites in 15 edentulous patients using an electric-controlled pressure algometer. PPT mapping was created by the level of PPT, and PPT clustering was undertaken based on the inter-site correlation o

A comparison of donor and recipient site sensation in free tissue reconstruction of the oral cavity.

In patients who undergo oral cavity reconstruction, loss of sensation plays a vital role in producing disturbances in postoperative oral function. Microsurgical techniques have provided a method of addressing this deficit through the use of sensate cutaneous free flaps in which microneural anastomoses are performed between a sensory nerve supplying the flap, and a recipient nerve in the head and neck. The purpose of this study was to compare the cutaneous sensation of the radial forearm flap and lateral arm flap donor sites, the two most commonly used intraoral sensate flaps. For comparison, s

Comparative Effectiveness of Different Probiotic Delivery Methods in Oral Candidiasis: A Systematic Review.

Oral candidiasis, mainly from Candida albicans, affects immunocompromised individuals, the elderly, and denture wearers. Probiotics offer immunomodulatory and microbiota-balancing benefits as potential antifungal alternatives. However, the comparative impact of different probiotic delivery methods remains inadequately explored. This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of various probiotic delivery methods in reducing Candida colonization and clinical symptoms in oral candidiasis. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a systematic review search across multiple databases included human cli

Oral Thrush: An Entity With a Diagnostic Dilemma.

Candida albicans is a commensal found in the oral cavity. It is the most frequently encountered infection in the oral cavity which can be predisposed by a number of factors including most commonly compromised immunity, certain drugs, poor oral hygiene, and ill-fitting dentures. Clinical presentation involves whitish patches or erythema over the buccal mucosa, tongue, and palate depending on the type and occurrence of the condition. Oral physicians have a key role in the diagnosis of such lesions as they are well acquainted with their appearance and features. Prompt treatment can be advised onc

Relationship between the jaw-closing force and dietary form in older adults without occlusal support requiring nursing care.

In clinical practice, we encounter cases wherein older adults lacking occlusal support consume foods requiring mastication and adequate swallowing function. This study investigated the relationship between jaw-closing force (JCF) and dietary form in older adults without occlusal support requiring nursing care. This prospective cross-sectional study included 123 older adults requiring nursing care who lost their molar occlusal support and consumed food orally without dentures. JCF was defined as the force required for crushing food with the edentulous ridges or with the tooth and edentulous rid

Methacrylate perspective in current dental practice.

OBJECTIVE: To provide a current perspective concerning dental personnel sensitivity to methacrylate materials. OVERVIEW: Methacrylate related sensitivity and allergies are currently beyond traditional thoughts concerning denture base resins and methyl methacrylate provisional materials. Methacrylates are now ubiquitous in current dental practice and dental personnel should be aware that dental adhesives contain potent sensitizers that may also cross-sensitize individuals to other methacrylates not experienced. The growing sensitivity to 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) has been described to

Fracture of a narrow-diameter roxolid implant: clinical and fractographic considerations.

PURPOSE: Narrow-diameter implants have become popular, as bone augmentation procedures can frequently be avoided. In order to provide implants with sufficient strength, a titanium-zirconium (Ti-Zr) alloy has recently been introduced purportedly showing improved mechanical properties as compared to commercially pure titanium (cpTi). This paper reports on the clinical and fractographic aspects of a fractured Ti-Zr implant, generally considered a rare event. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A narrow-diameter Ti-Zr implant was placed in a patient aged 66 years in the area of the maxillary right canine and
