Duodenal webs are an uncommon cause of duodenal stenosis arising from incomplete bowel recanalisation during embryological development. Despite troubling symptoms such as bilious vomiting in affected infants, prognosis is generally favourable when promptly recognised and treated surgically. Though the condition is recognised as embryological in origin, evidence for familial predisposition is lacking in the medical literature. The authors present a case of duodenal web and concurrent annular pancreas with a positive family history of congenital duodenal obstruction in the infant's father. We di

Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder without a readily identifiable organic cause, resulting in bothersome upper abdominal symptoms. It is a highly prevalent disorder of which the pathophysiology remains mostly elusive, despite intensive research efforts. However, recent studies have found alterations in the microenvironment of the duodenum in patients with FD. In this review we summarize the duodenal microenvironment in homeostatic conditions and the alterations found in patients with FD, highlighting the similarities and discrepancies between different studies. INTRODUCTION: Cardiac rehabilitation is a component of heart failure (HF) management, but its effect on ventricular arrhythmias is not well understood. We analyzed the antiarrhythmic effect of a 9-week hybrid comprehensive telerehabilitation (HCTR) program and its influence on long-term cardiovascular mortality in HF patients taken from the TELEREHabilitation in Heart Failure Patients (TELEREH-HF) trial.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We evaluated the presence of non-sustained ventricular tachycardia (nsVT) and frequent premature ventricular complexes ≥ 10 beats/hour (PVCs ≥ 10) in 24-hour ECG monitor

BACKGROUND: The most common type of duodenal atresia (DA) (Type I), also known as duodenal web or membrane can present later in infancy or early childhood if the membrane or web is fenestrated. We describe six patients with delayed presentation of DA.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective review of hospital records of six patients with delayed presentation of DA due to fenestrated web managed in Paediatric Surgery Department at a tertiary care institute over a period of 2 years (January 2019 to December 2020) was done. The data of these patients were analysed on the basis of age at presentatio

This case report presents the clinical findings, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment options for a 71-year-old female patient with a medical history of hypertension, dyslipidemia, and recurrent urinary tract infections. The patient presented with chronic abdominal pain as the sole symptom. Despite normal laboratory investigations, esophagogastroduodenoscopy and ileocolonoscopy were performed. Biopsies were obtained from the duodenum and histopathological analysis confirmed a diagnosis of duodenal-type follicular lymphoma. This rare condition typically presents with minimal clinical symptoms a

An 83-year-old male presented to the Emergency Department with long lasting epigastric discomfort, weight loss and diarrhea. Physical exam and basic laboratory tests showed no remarkable findings. Upper endoscopy revealed a sessile lesion (Paris 0-IIa) in the anterior wall of the duodenal bulb, with smooth surface and slightly ulcerated at the top.

The duodenum can be affected by a variety of abnormalities because of its development during embryogenesis and its dual intra- and retroperitoneal location. If small bowel embryogenesis is disturbed, congenital errors occur. Although some congenital variants may be asymptomatic and inconsequential to the patient, other anomalies can result in life-threatening emergencies such as malrotation, leading to midgut volvulus. Many infectious processes affect the duodenum, including duodenal ulcers and opportunistic infection in patients with HIV/AIDS or Crohn disease. Small bowel malignancies are unc

BACKGROUND: Eosinophilic duodenitis (EoD), characterized by nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms and increased numbers of duodenal eosinophils, may be in the eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease spectrum. However, diagnostic thresholds and pathogenic processes of duodenal tissue eosinophilia are inadequately characterized.
OBJECTIVE: We aimed to define an EoD transcriptome and pathologic pathways.
METHODS: RNA sequencing and histologic features of human duodenal biopsy samples were analyzed as a function of duodenal eosinophils levels. For analyses, we defined EoD as more than 52 peak eosi…
