BACKGROUND AND AIM: Sniff test is a common method before unsedated transnasal esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (UT-EGD) to select a nostril insertion site. Yet there is no objective method to select a more specific meatus insertion tract for anesthesia and insertion. We devised an endoscopic meatus scoring scale by anterior meatuscopy to select the most optimal meatus insertion tract. We hypothesized that meatuscopy instead of sniff test might improve tolerance and reduce adverse events during nasal anesthesia and UT-EGD.

Spontaneous perforation of a duodenal ulcer secondary to allergic eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) has not been previously reported. We present such a case in a teenager who presented with peritonitis. After exploration and operative repair of his ulcer, he continued to experience intermittent abdominal pain, and further evaluation revealed eosinophilic gastroenteritis in the setting of multiple food allergies. The results of morphological research of stomach's mucouse membrane in children with functional dyspepsia are presented in the article. Microscopic changes were found in all examined children regardless of endoscopic state of the gastric and duodenum mucosa. Microscopic picture of the epithelium damage and regeneration was revealed; in more complicated cases, under the decline of regeneration potential features of interstitial inflammation appear. Actuality of morphological research in differential diagnostic of functional dyspepsia and chronic gastritis in children has been shown.

AIM: Scattered white spots (SWSs) in the descending duodenum are an uncommon finding of upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy (UGSE). Intestinal lymphangiectasia, chronic nonspecific duodenitis and giardiasis are associated with a SWS appearance. The results of treatment of 150 patients, suffering gastroduodenal perforative ulcer, using laparoscopic method, were studied. Depending on the operations volume, they must be divided on palliative, conditionally radical and radical. The operation volume choice has depended on the patient age, the ulcer disease duration and the course character, as well as the conservative therapy efficacy. A case is presented of a patient with a psychiatric illness and pica who developed a pyogenic liver abscess due to perforation of the duodenum by a pen. This report emphasizes the importance of ultrasound and computed tomography in making a rapid diagnosis. The relative superiority of ultrasound was revealed because an anaesthetic was not required for scanning, and in addition to the liver abscess, the precise location of the perforating foreign body was demonstrated.
