The bladder leiomyosarcoma is a rare and agressive mesenchymal tumour, and adult women of reproductive age have a higher incidence of developing the bladder leiomyosarcoma. The pathophysiology of the disease is not certain, and its main symptoms are hematuria, dysuria and abdominal pain. There are not a considerable amount of cases described in the literature. We report a case of a giant leiomyosarcoma of the urinary bladder in a 31-year-old woman.

Urinary stones are rarely seen in the urethra and are usually encountered in men with urethral stricture or diverticulum. The case of a 52-year-old woman presented, who consulted for weak stream associated with repeated urinary infections. The diverticulum was approached via vaginal route and the extraction was successful. The patient has been well, with no dysuria, dyspareunia, incontinence for 3-month follow-ups.

Urethral diverticula with calculi have a low incidence as reported in the literature. This elderly female patient was first seen with recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), dysuria, and hematuria. She had two large stones, one in the bladder and one in a urethral diverticulum. Litholapaxy with a laser was effective in resolving both calculi. Subsequent urethral diverticulectomy was effective in removal of the urethral diverticulum.

A case of a asymptomatic paraurethral leiomyoma in a young female patient is presented. Paraurethral leiomyoma is a benign hormone-dependent tumor of mesenchymal origin. Up today only 7 true paraurethral leiomyomas have been reported in the literature. The tumor can be asymptomatic, but can cause dysuria, urinary frequency, urinary retention and dispareunia. simple excision is usually the adequate treatment.

We report a case of complete uterine prolapse with bilateral hydroureter. The patient was a 81-year-old woman with complete uterine prolapse suffering from dysuria and urinary incontinence. Bilateral moderate hydroureter happened to be revealed by drip infusion pyelography (DIP) but blood creatinine was normal. Hydroureter was ameliorated by vaginal hysterectomy. A brief discussion and review of the literature are given.

Prostate leiomyosarcoma is an extremely rare and highly aggressive neoplasm that accounts for >0.1% of all primary prostate malignancies. We report a case of a patient, presenting with recurrent episodes of dysuria, who had been diagnosed and operated for benign prostatic hyperplasia 1 month earlier, and now presented with similar symptoms postoperatively. Trans-rectal biopsy of the prostate was carried out and histopathology revealed leiomyosarcoma of the prostate.

A neutered female chow chow aged six years and five months was evaluated for dysuria. An initial diagnosis of bladder distension and atony was made following physical, ultrasonographic and radiographic examinations. The problems did not resolve with medical management and exploratory surgery revealed a large bladder diverticulum. This report describes the radiographic findings and surgical repair of the acquired bladder diverticulum. The literature available on this condition is also reviewed.

A 46-year-old man complaining of transient dysuria. After digital examination and ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and angiography, retrovesical tumor was suspected and tumor resection was performed. There was no adhesion to the adjacent organs, and histopathological diagnosis was a dermoid cyst. The patient is being followed up at our hospital without severe complications and recurrence. This is the third report of retrovesical dermoid cyst in a male in the world.

Balloon catheter dilatation of the prostate (BCDP) was performed in 25 patients with prostatic hypertrophy. All patients suffered from dysuria or urinary retention. Follow-up for 8-14 months showed that 20 patients had satisfactory results. The balloon catheter of 25 mm x 50 mm was inflated at 4-6 atm for 10-15 minutes. BCDP was modified for the use in the local hospitals.

The case of a patient with emphysematous cystitis who presented with complaints of lower abdominal pain, dysuria, and pneumaturia is presented. The presenting symptoms, differential diagnosis, and radiographic and cystoscopic appearances of emphysematous cystitis, a rare complication of lower urinary tract infection occurring almost exclusively in diabetics, are reviewed. Treatment consists of urinary drainage, prompt initiation of antibiotic therapy, and strict glucose control. The prognosis usually is excellent.

The findings of a 10-year retrospective study (January 1978 to December 1987) carried out at the General Surgical Units, Kenyatta National Hospital are presented. 82 patients with 89 episodes of stone disease were studied. An annual incidence of 8.9 was recorded. The sex ratio was 4.5:1 male:female. Pain, dysuria, frequency, retention, infection and haematuria are quite common. Most stones are in the bladder.

Testicular torsion is characterized by the sudden onset of testicular pain associated with abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Fever is unusual and urinalysis is often normal. Fever, pyuria, dysuria and urethral discharge are characteristic of epididymitis. Radionuclide scanning and Doppler ultrasound are helpful in establishing the diagnosis. If the diagnosis is uncertain, the patient should be considered to have testicular torsion until it is proved otherwise. Undiagnosed torsion leads to testicular necrosis.

Emphysematous cystitis is found in diabetic patients and in individuals with urinary stasis and immunosuppression.
