The authors point out, following a study of 7 cases of abdominal pregnancy, how necessary it is to make a diagnosis early and to use ultrasonography routinely whenever there is the slightest abnormality in the progress of the pregnancy, such as absence of strong fetal movements or failure of the abdominal contents to grow rapidly. The treatment is surgical and the placenta should as far as possible be removed completely because serious complications both of infection and haemorrhage can occur if the placenta is only partially removed. These complications can pose a great threat to the mother.

Despite widespread use of many methods of antenatal testing, limited evidence exists to demonstrate effectiveness at improving perinatal outcomes. An exception is the use of Doppler ultrasound in monitoring high-risk pregnancies thought to be at risk of placental insufficiency. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prognostic value of the acoustic test in post-term pregnancies. 80 acoustic tests were done (alkaline phosphatase and oxytocinase). In 12 cases, the cardiotocographic recordings of the acoustic test were described as incorrect, 11 neonates of this were born in asphyxia. In the group of neonates responding to the stimulus correctly, all neonates were born in a generally good state. The results show that the acoustic test is characterized by high prognostic value and a correct test result can predict a good fetal state.

OBJECTIVE: This study analyzed the cases of 55 children with cerebral palsy to evaluate methods for determination of the time before birth at which antenatal hypoxemia-ischemia damaged the brain.
STUDY DESIGN: In primate fetuses persistent fetal bradycardia develops close to the time that hypoxemia-ischemia damages basal ganglia structures in the brain. The same proved true in children in this study, so this time was thereafter used as a baseline to test the values of other proposed timers of hypoxemicischemic brain damage.

This report describes a full-term newborn with massive fetomaternal hemorrhage. Fetal movements were decreased 48 hr prior to delivery. On the day of delivery, they were absent. The nonstress test was abnormal with low biophysical profile and decreased beat-to-beat variability. The infant presented with extreme pallor, hypotonia, hepatosplenomegaly, and ascites.
