Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples of canine amelanotic melanomas and normal canine tissues were studied immunohistochemically for the presence of S100 protein. Use of the avidin-biotin complex procedure demonstrated variable amounts of S100 protein in the tumor cell cytoplasm and nuclei in 26 of 31 tumors. In a series of 26 consecutive autopsy cases of intracranial tumors of neuroectodermal origin, tumor seeding on the ventricular surface and in the subarachnoid space was studied. Myxofibrosarcoma, a rare malignant tumor, predominantly affects the extremities of the elderly. Because of its invasive nature amputation is sometimes required, resulting in serious deterioration of quality of life. Therefore, cell lines established from amputated surgical specimens of myxofibrosarcoma in the upper limbs of elderly patients were used to create a myxofibrosarcoma-bearing animal model and to investigate the therapeutic effect of BNCT thereon. The results demonstrated selective destruction of tumor cells, suggesting the anti-tumor efficacy of BNCT on myxofibrosarcoma.

Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) is an uncommon soft-tissue malignancy. LGFMS preferentially affects trunks and extremities of young adults; however, occasional cases have been reported in different sites of head and neck region including oral cavity, larynx and oropharynx. LGFMS usually exhibit areas of collagenised and myxoid stroma with appearance of spindle cells in whorling pattern.
