PURPOSE: Patients with relapsed seminoma after first-line chemotherapy can be treated with salvage chemotherapy or postchemotherapy retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (PC-RPLND). The influence of dietary fibre on the biological effects of glucosinolates was investigated in gnotobiotic rats harbouring a human whole faecal flora. Animals were fed for 6 wk with diets containing 12% rapeseed meal (RSM) supplemented or not supplemented with 10% inulin (INL) or oat fibre. Using germ-free rats inoculated with a human faecal flora (gnotobiotic rats), the effects of three oligosaccharides (beta-fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), beta-galacto-oligosaccharides (TOS) and alpha-gluco-oligosaccharides (GOS)) on intestinal bacterial metabolism were compared. Germ cell cancers (GCCs) represent the most common malignant tumours among men up to the age of 40 years. GCCs are characterised by high cure rates of >99% for localised stage I disease, but even at advanced metastatic stages, 67%-96% of patients can be cured with multimodal treatment approaches.
